Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Some facilities could do with updating and tents were cold in winter. Some guests are noisy but that's what you expect in a hostel in byron. Bus into town was great and breakfast was awesome. Will definitely return.
Slice of hippy heaven. The only real negative was there were no lockers in the 10-bed cottage and the front door was left open most days so somewhere to lock my valuables would have been nice for peace of mind. This is the kind of place you come for the friendly, sociable atmosphere though so you won't care about the minor details once you've settled in. Beautiful place and a definitely 'must see'.
Great hostel with beautiful, friendly people and nothing but positive vibes.
The only available cabins (better said tents) were anything but pleasant to sleep in. You can literally hear everything that your neighbour is talking about, or even better was the live music that was going on next door! Thanks for the heads up that we won't be sleeping on Friday nights. Next to that, buy some heaters! How can you ask money for a room where you need 3 blankets just to keep warm!?
When I arrived it was fine, no information on how to get to the town which is a short walk or information on the shuttle bus to town. There are loads of group activities to join in with, the bush walk wasn't so much a walk but still a good organised to do and learned about which plants are edible ect. Met some nice people in here but there are long termers who make the atmosphere a bit frosty, I understand this having been a long termer so it didn't bother me.
It was a great experience! Excellent atmosphere and staffs! Recommend at all.
Fabulous hostel. Byron would not have been the same had we not stayed here. Staff are great, the facilities and surroundings are great, everything is just so chilled and everyone so friendly. Best hostel stay in Australia so far.
Really cool place with a great atmosphere. Easy to book stuff at the travel desk. Good to have windows for ventilation in the dorms. Half the lockers in the dorm didn't have doors on them and the ones that did couldn't be closed. Of course you can use the lockers you have to pay for... Annoying to have to get dishes from reception but totally understand why! Would be helpful to have an oven.
The bathroom were very dirty and broken. The place is too nosy and in the moorning I nearly get hit by a bottle of biere coming from the floor above me!
I had mold at the wall in my room and it's smells. It was very cold in the night. You have to give your passport to rent cooking equipment.
very good party atmosphere and a good vibe thanks to the guests. it sells itself as an iconic hostel in byron being in place since the 70s. let down by a wierd management decision to keep a lot of things from the backpackers, it ruins the kitchens where there are no plates or glasses available and all cutlery is only plastic. If you want a blanket you must go to the reception desk and request one with your ID which makes guests feel like the staff are suspicious of them and is a real vibe-kill
