Good vibe, helpfull staff, clean rooms and very nice facilities. A bit pricey, but it's great value for money. 5-10 minute walk from Long St. where everything is happening, also possible to walk up to Table Mountain and hike to the top if u have some time. Possible to walk from Civic Centre where the airport shuttle drops u off but ur better off getting another bus towards Gardens. Great place to meet people if ur visiting CT alone with a nice and social bar. Had a great experience at Ashanti!

A very good place to stay in Capetown. 10 mns walks through gardens alleys to main streets, buses 2 mns, and supermarket also. Nice garden, small swimming pool nearby the kitchen, café and terrace, with nice view on TAble mountain. I stayed 6 days in a big dorm. Really good atmosphere, the better place to stay in city center, because quiet and friendly I recommand it to all kinds of people, and ll come back a.s.a.p

Our room ( double) was really nice and clean. The Pool however - not so much. I couldn't even see down to the bottom . Showers smelt ab bit funny. WLAN was only at the front of the builiding and was handed out in 1h vouchers. The kitchen is clean but the fridges are a complete mess and stink like hell.

Hello Alica I am surprised that you mention that the pool isn't clean - I do recall one day when it got a bit murky, but it is usually crystal clear! Sorry about that. Unfortunately, the FREE wi-fi does only work towards the front of the building as we have really thick walls in this old building. It would cost us a lot of money to extend it, and as it is a free service we cannot really afford to do so right now. There is a big enough area that it services though. I was not aware that the fridges smelled, so I will have a look into that immediately. Regards Lisa

Hello Claudia Thank you for your comment. I see that you arrived here on New Year's Day! I know that it shouldn't be an excuse, but I can imagine that it must have been a bit crazy around here that day!! I know we were 100% full (which we are not always) and it is always a bit crazier when it's like that. Regards, Lisa

I enjoyed my stay at this hostel, one of the best while I was travelling in South Africa. The hostel was quite full and lively, ideal for solo travellers who want to met other people. My dorm was next to the pool and the kitchen where it was sometimes loud in the evening. I liked the breakfast, but not the pizza. The kitchen (except the fridge) and the showers/toilets are great and clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. The location is great (buses, supermarket) and I always felt secure.

Ashanti Lodge Gardens was simply the absolute best backpacker I've ever stayed in! Friendliest staff in the world! Always ready to give a hand with anything u need! If u are in the mood for a young, happy and safe trip, this is the BEST place to be! Music plays until late but just good stuff! The pool table, the swimming pool, the bar, the beers, the free wi-fi, great kitchen and balconies, the small safes in the room to store valuables, individual toilets and showers.Super clean! LOVED IT!

This place is nice however, in high season, it is incredibly crowded. I have never seen so many people in one place. It was simply too much. It is a house and is not designed to accommodate that many people. It was noisy and there was nowhere to escape to read a book in peace.

Hello Miriam. Thank you for your comment, The Christmas/New Year period is peak season in Cape Town and everywhere is crowded, but we do make sure that there are enough beds and enough hot water for everyone! But I am sure it can't be that bad as I see that you came back 4 times :-) Regards, Lisa

A friendly hostel, good pool, bar and kitchen which is good. Close walk to a supermarket and lots of things. Only complaint would be I'm not sure if the all sheets on the beds were changed between people staying as some were dirty.

I really enjoyed my stay at Ashanti Lodge. I thought the facilities were very good and I liked the atmosphere. The dorm rooms were nice. The location was also very good. Many people want to be near Long Street because it's a fun/busy area and Ashanti lodge is just a few minutes walking distance away. I was told by several other travelers that hostels on long street itself are very noisy at night. Compared to other places that organize tours Ashanti was overpriced (eg to go see the sharks)

Hi. Thanks for your comment and I am glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. We do not up the prices of our tours, but rather offer those that we feel offer the best experience. The shark cage trips we offer are with a company that is the most environmentally active and also has lots of social responsibility projects. They may be a little bit more expensive than other companies, but we feel that they are worth it. All the others tours we offer should be on a par with other travel centres. Regards, Lisa
