This is one of these hostels that you can't leave. Really awesome staff, good vibe in the bar, swimming pool with an amazing view on Table Mountain. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

such a greedy owner, the cost of internet and prints are more than Europe and the hostel run mainly by volunteers whom have no knowledge about the places for tourists. You have to open 10 kitchens units till you find the things you are looking for and there is no labels on the units. Most hostels with that price will provide breakfast but here milk is not provided either, its a money making business and not much bothered about the tourists.

Hello! I am so sorry you feel this way - I am the owner and the hostel is NOT run by volunteers. We have 2 interns working for experience at reception but they are always assisting our local employees. Our wi-fi is free, but we do charge to use the guest computers as they are expensive to maintain, but it is a standard charge that most internet cafes in Cape Town would charge. I am sorry that you found us expensive, but there are pricier hostels in Cape Town than ours - with no breakfast!

Its a good place , comfortable beds , good location but it should be managed better such as the kitchen area and the fridge which is not big enough for a big hostel. No unity of approach between staff and restricted rules which was not working during my stay

Hi there! Thank you for your review- we have just bought an additional fridge which should help! We are also having customer service training so that should assist. Regards Lisa

The bathroom wasn’t clean. Too many people using. We found cockroachs in the bathroom 3 times. The staff smokes with the guests everyday (not just tobacco). I just think this is unprofessional. They don’t provide towels No breakfast included It was impossible to keep your things in the fridge. It was a mess and completed full. The stayed in Ashanti Greenpoint and it is much better than Ashanti Gardens. I was expecting the same quality but I got so disappointed

Hello Guiliana Thank you for your constructive criticism. I am so sorry that you found the bathrooms not up to standard - I have staff cleaning them all day from 7am to 9pm! We have just bought an additional new fridge so things should be easier in the kitchen from now on. I also feel that it is is unprofessional for the staff to smoke and will find out who it is and deal with it immediately. I am so sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. Regards, Lisa

Great hostel! I left to book accommodation in CT so I had to book two hostels. Ashanti Lodge was the second choice...until I arrived here! I won't mention the name of the other Hostel because this is a plug for Ashanti not a knocking others. There is more space, light, atmosphere and facilities here. There is better security with safes and under bed lockers. The staff are friendly, professional and always willing to help. It's a great hostel, with a pool too.

Stayed at Ashanti for 8 nights in December, 2014. Absolutely fantastic staff, great bar, really chill atmosphere. It's quite close to Long Street if you're looking for a night out, but just far enough away to keep the noise down. Thanks guys!

They didn't have our booking when we arrived. Which was annoying as we had booked over a month prior. We ended up having to swap rooms a few times. Location is close to Long St however not ideal that you can't walk back alone or in a small group at night. Kitchen facilities are adequate and there is a bar which you can meet people at before heading out.

Great location near Kloof and Long street. Staff was really nice and helpful planning activities. Mark at the travel desk did a great job. Security guard walks around the grounds at night so I felt very safe.

Don' t go there, if you actually want to sleep in your room. It is a party hostel for people at the age of 20. We stayed in a double next to the pool. In the evening you hear loud music from the bar until 10 pm and afterwards from party people next door or worst at 4:30 am from people jumping into the pool. At 7 am the cleaning staff starts its work in the communal kitchen, which is next to the rooms around the pool, so even in the morning, you can't sleep. Staff was ignorant of the problem.

Hi Juliane I am sorry that you had a problem with noise. We do try to make an effort to curb all noise and as you say the bar is quiet from 10pm. If people make a noise when they come home at night the night staff do try and tell them to sshhh but it can be difficult to control. Sorry about that! Regards, Lisa

I stayed 2 nights. Comfortable beds and rooms, lovely views and atmosphere, free wifi, close to everything. I had a double private room near the pool. The room was very comfortable, however make sure you have good ear plugs. This is a place for people who party all night. They have rules against noise at night but young people who have been out partying don't understand rules or shooshers. If not for the noise I would return again and again.

Hi Jennifer Thanks for your review. I am sorry about the noise - it is sometimes difficult to manage people when they come home late at night. Thanks Lisa

The place to stay at when in Cape Town. The staff will make you feel welcome to a large group of friends. The facilities are fab and the place is full of charm and character.

Even though the beds are average and the noise in the rooms are too, the atmosphere and location is great. The kitchen is ok and also the pool, but you can chat easily and always find people to speak with. the bar was right next to my room but I could sleep very well. the tour desk allows to book spontaneous. I enjoyed the stay!!!

Hi Nina - thanks for your review. I am surprised that you found our beds average... we designed them ourselves and they are certainly better than most other dorms beds you will come across :-) Nevertheless, I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us! Regards Lisa

This is a party hostel, in case you're someone like me looking to avoid party hostels. If this is your thing, go for it -- there's a (loud) bar and people really seemed to be enjoying themselves. If you want a quiet place to rest at night while you explore Cape Town during the day, maybe look elsewhere. Also, two women in the 6-bed dorm had been living there for 8 weeks and it showed -- I couldn't tell which bed was even available because stuff was everywhere.

Hi Erica I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us - the bar can be a bit of a party sometimes, but it does close early these days :-) We have a couple of volunteers staying for some time but I was not aware that they had taken over the room... I will follow up, so thanks for that. Regards Lisa
