A great place very central with incredibly nice tenants that helped us with the Houseboat booking (done in advance - advice: wait to be on site to book your tour!!! Don't plan ahead as they charge you more!), etc. You feel at home there!

Very friendly staff, lovely bamboo rooms. Excellent food. Our room was facing the street so it was quite noisy; otherwise location is very good.

The man working there was nice and seemed like a genuine person but spoke very little English. They were able to arrange a last minute houseboat for us & woke up to check us out at 6am, but didn't seem ready for us when we arrived. The room we were in did not look like the picture. All rooms have AC but they will try to charge you 300 extra rupees for using it. The bathroom had holes that mosquitoes could easily get into the room through and there was no mosquito net over the bed.

Owner Comment (Hide)
First of all we thank you for your comments. We have AC rooms for 550 per bed and Non AC rooms for 350 per bed. You have booked for a non AC bamboo room. Due to some technical problem we gave an AC room to be used as Non AC. But we saw that you are using AC with out informing us. When it was noticed we requested you either switched off the AC or pay Rupees 300 more to use AC. Then you choose for the Non AC. Very next day morning you went to Varkala by Guruvayoor - Trivandrum Intercity Express which leaves Alappuzha station by 7am. So naturally you have to wake up at 6am to get ready to reach the railway station, which is 3kms away from our home stay. We never made a call to wake up the guest. We provide liquid vaporizer (mosquito) in all our rooms including the room you used and the bathroom holes are covered with nets.

Very friendly and helpful people. Nice location close to the Alappuzha centre. Although, if you have to find when it's dark, you'll have to pace some dark streets.

We just stayed one night, but it we had a very nice time. The family operating the guest house is really friendly and caring for the guests, also the room was very nice.

Here we were greeted with a big smile and bottled water, the rooms were the cleanest we have stayed in in India. You can have great great home cooked meals at any time.

Dreadful dirty unsafe frretrap

A very pleasant stay here. Cosy, clean room with good mosquito net, which was definitely needed as plenty of mosquitoes in the town and also in the room. The walls are paper thin though, which was only felt with the arrival of several families of local tourists. Organised a thoroughly enjoyable trip into the backwaters for canoeing with a local family.

It says breakfast included but means if you pay extra, also says hot water, means they will heat up a bucket

We only stayed for one night, which was a real shame! Our hosts made us feel unbelievably welcome without being overbearing and our room was clean, comfortable and full of character. Would recommend to any traveller, of any age, whatever your financial situation. Make sure you try their ice cream milkshakes!

Great place with the most caring staff and a nice atmosphere. The food is excelllent and "home-cooked" in the little kitchen attached to the reception. Nice bamboorooms and other cheaper alternatives available. You really feel like kome here and as the manager sid: "Not my house, our house"...

A very unique hostel made from bamboo. Staff are great, very helpful and it's very clean (by Indian standards).Did the eco-day trip into the backwaters with Anthony & Maria - eating in their home and paddling around - a highlight of my trip.

We had a wonderful stay at Astamudi! The homestay (more like a guest house) had lovely bamboo rooms and a large communal area in which to relax. The food here was yummy and was available all day. The staff however made this stay and were on hand with anything you needed. Dropping what they were doing in order to help. A great place to stay in order to head out to the back waters. We would particulary reccomend the canoe trip! Thank you for a wonderful stay! Emma and Andy

No problems at all with this place except for the rat we encountered twice in our room. Once just a quick scamper across the ceiling and once a loud bang in the middle of the night as he fell from the ceiling into the room. He managed to find a way out quick enough and we didn\'t have to spend time with him. Bathroom is not the highest quality either, but for the price can\'t complain. If you stay here say \"Hi\" to Jerry the Rat for us...

We were well looked after and had help arranging a houseboat stay.Good food available anda good central location

Stayed here as a base while we sorted & went on a house boat tour. We stayed in an up stairs bamboo room which was clean & comfortable. Good location in town & next to a supermarket. Looked around other tour agents and found hotel offered the cheapest tour. The house boat they arranged was also lovely and also clean. The food was the best food we've had in India so far! The guy and his wife who run the hotel were wonderful to us and really helpful.

Very nice and warmhearthed family, that will help you with everything you need.Even if it´s near the busy city its á very relaxing place, with a very special atmosphere. Just go there!
