A lot of reviews have commented on the security. Unless the person has absolutely no common sense, the security is no big problem at all; the people at Aso Rider house are friendly, welcoming and likely to be the highlights of your trip to Japan.

One of the best guesthouses i stayed in..Small but friendly and surrounded by the most beautiful mountains!!! A little bit hard to find because of no english sign, but when you do it will be all worth it....

The owner is a cool guy and cooks a mean feast! The female room is a little squishy, yet clean and comfortable. It's about 15mins on the bus from Aso station, though there are fairly frequent buses. No showers there, though several onsen in the close vicinity.

Amazing hostel ^^ We really enjoyed it, and the staff is cool and very kind! The little town is full of onsen, the people are kind and it isn't so far from Aso-san.

The inn keeper took me blueberry picking for free and I got to keep 10% of what I picked. It was great to finally hang out with regular Japanese people in a casual setting. The inn keeper had great recommendations for local onsen and places to get food.

the random sunday night hotplate cookoff and sake event was awesome :) Really helpful manager that sat down and annotated a local map of the area for me too. Definitely worth a stay if youre in the area

You definitely get more than you pay for. Especially the conversations during the evening were very enjoyable.

The woman who runs the place was great! Very nice, helpful, and had good English. It's a bit of a hike to get to but not too bad to find. Rooms were clean but no locks.
