Great place to stay in Goa - far enough away from the chaos to relax, yet close enough to join in if you choose. Cheap scooters available to explore the beaches and towns. Also a great place to meet other like minded travelers.

Really the best hostel I've ever stayed in! So homey and comfortable right off the bat, and everyone is super friendly and inclusive! The breakfast (oh ma god, the samosas) is basic, but very good. The whole staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. I was here over Christmas, and they went above and beyond making a Christma lunch for all the guests and gave little presents to everyone. Highly reccomend!!

Nice place, beautiful rooms, there is a kitchen where you can cook and keep things in the fridge. Very close to vagator but need taxi or bike to go to more lively locations.

Astrix is THE hostel to go to in Vagator. Great vibe, excellent and friendly staff, delicious (free!) breakfast, awesome social scene, great location close to the beach. All around excellent value for your money. You won't find a better hostel in all of Goa.

I've stayed at many hostels prior to this trip and I would classify this hostel as the best one yet - not only is it clean, it has great character and a great staff. I'll definitely return one day!

Asterix must rank amongst the top 20 places I've ever stayed at,and I've stayed at quite a few! In a place like India, with few hostels of any description\, it's a real find! I recommend anyone in Goa to go here!

Asterix is an example of a hostel that is not commonly or easily found elsewhere in India. They appreciate that the experiences shared between travellers is as important as the actual accommodation and its facilities. Whilst the hostel is very clean, has good amenities and is well managed the defining element is how easy it is to socialise with other travellers and meet new people. I would highly recommend Asterix to anyone considering visiting Goa.

My friend and I spent two nights in the 6 bed dorm. The other guests in the room could have been a bit tidier both in the room and the bathroom; it was generally a bit of a tip. But the communal lounge and kitchen were very clean and the breakfast (included in the price) each morrning was really nice - bananas, rolls, bread, freshly boiled eggs, butter, jam, cheese spread... and free tea/coffee all day. There is also a communal fridge and free filtered water for filling your bottle. Thumbs up!

Asterix provides all the right facilities for a backpacker in Goa from a lively common room to chilled beers in the fridge and most importantly Wifi!! Met a very cool set of folks from all over the world who planned to stop for a few days but ended up staying for weeks. The owners and the staff are very helpful, know a lot about Goa and try hard to make your stay as pleasant as possible. It is a stone's throw from vagator beach and some restaurants. night owls can try Primrose at 4 am as well ;)

Really nice hostel in the north of Goa. Clean and very comfortable. Few problems though. Vagator is really quiet. If you plan on doing absolutely nothing during your stay here you will love it. Also the security in the West Wing (Dorms) should be beefed up. No keys to the rooms even though the rooms have lockers isn't a smart idea in a place full of Westerners. Most backpackers now, no matter how hippy they try to be have lots of expensive gadgets to steal. Go to Palolem instead.

Owner Comment (Show)
Thanks for your review. We are glad you liked your stay at the hostel! About security, we have replaced all our locks in The West Wing and occupants of the dorms can now lock the dorm doors. This, in addition to a security guard and individual lockers, is sufficient security for all. That said, Goa is very different from cities like New Delhi or Mumbai or even Ney York or Bangkok. Most residents here don't ever lock their houses or cars. That's how things work in the village and community. Vagator is relatively quiet compared to Baga, Calangute, or Anjuna. This was one of the reasons to pick the location of the hostel - to give people the chilled, 'susegado' experience that Goa is famous for. This, coupled with ample open spaces and seating areas creates the perfect atmosphere to meet people - something you will not find around more crowded beaches. Along with that, the best parties in Goa - Club Cubana, Anjuna's trance parties, and Baga's night clubs - are all a 5 to 20mins drive away. Palolem is a very nice beach, but besides a once-a-week silent disco party, most things close by 11pm. It is also 60km from most of the best parties in Goa.

Just brilliant!! We were made to feel really welcome. Jason and Amber and all the staff are really helpful as they want everyone to have a great time. The cooking facilities and communal areas are great and well set up. Breakfast is great and one of the most social times of day. Basically the craick is top here! All the residents tend to go out together. People don't want to leave. Its clean and safe. Would highly recommend to any traveller especially if travelling on your own.

Asterix is a fantastic place to meet other like minded travellers, the public areas are social and relaxed and the wifi connection was excellent all through the facility. Free breakfast was amazing, and the kitchen and fridge made it very easy to cook and feed yourself v cheaply. I met some great people here and we have stayed in touch since. Thumbs up.

I must say that this the only real hostel I have seen in India. If you want to meet friends and have lots of fun be sure to visit this place. It has a common area, free wi-fi, a kitchen and good breakfasts. The rooms are clean and the service provided by the staff are excellent. When I return to Goa I will definitely book a room here
