A bed and breakfast, but does not serve breakfast (unless you pay ten pounds per person and tell them by 7 30 the night before), also charge you for use of towels, old plumbing meant the toilet didn't always work. On the plus side the Internet always worked and the beds were really comfy. For the money and value you can probably find something closer to the center of the town.

We stayed for 2 nights, was a little far from the centre of town but walkable. Bathroom was tiny, couldn't move in bathroom. Tv didn't work but not a hassle because we spent the whole time in the town.

Hotel was very cramped. Staff were not very helpful. The atmosphere of the house wasn't very friendly. The bathrooms were extremely tiny. Was hard to have a shower, unless the door was open.

We had a wonderful time in York which started with our arrival at Astley House where we were greeted by a well informed lady with a pleasant manner. We enjoyed our stay and slept very well . The internet access was good too. There were perhaps 2 minor points worth improving without spending a fortune. 1. The ceiling in the bathroom was a green with some signs of mould, it could do with a repaint. 2. The room smelled of cigarette smoke, and could do with an air purifier.

Very nice little hostel, a comfortable walk from the city center , especially if you walk along the river- ask the staff how to get there. We only stayed one night but really enjoyed it.

I would like to see more information on the Astley House web-site, as my daughter though that the booking icluded a breakfast. It is quite difficult to find by public transport, without an adeuite map and instructions on how to get there, as the buses go by a convulted route. Many tourists from Britain and abroad visit YORK and they need assistance to get around the city, especially if they are not familiar with their suuroundings. There was NO food guide, location of local pubs and shops.

It is a nice and cosy hostel. The downside is that there is no breakfast provided and it is far from city centre.
