I and my friends stay here for 4 nights, we booked for 4 beds dorm and they put us in a 3 beds dorm without any charge, it's surprise me that we have our private area during the stay. Staffs are friendly. The netgative is the hostel is quite dirty, including room and bathroom. We found lots of ants in room.

Well I think it's the perfect place for young people coming to Cairns for party and get drunk all day long. There was no beaches near by though. I guess Cairns is just boring. But i'ts a 7 min walk for supermarket, city center and lagoon. The only bad thing was that my boyfriend got bitten by a bunch of Bed bogs like crazy. We have been moved to a double bed room though for the same rate than an 4 bed dormitory. I guess you can like it, depends what type of holidays you are looking for.

What a great, fun hostel - my favorite in Aus! I came for a few days and stayed for three weeks. Thanks, guys! Special thanks to Jeremy, the fun and professional manager, who basically lives at the reception. :) It wouldn't be the same without you, mate!

My second time at the awesomeness that is Asylum cairns. I did manage to slip in someone\'s vomit, which was utterly disgusting (not the hostels fault of course, it\'s always a hazard when goon and stupid people mix!!!) BUT even so I would never ever stay anywhere else while in Cairns :) Note to people of the world: If you need to vomit, don\'t do it on the top of the stairs, AND IF YOU CAN\'T HELP YOURSELF then at least clean it up or tell the staff!!! :p

Great place to meet people and they arrange good parties throughout the week! The owners are always around and the son and daughter run the party brigade. Cleanliness is lacking though, esp. in the bathrooms. Breakfast is just coffee and cornflakes and the free dinner is down the the backpacker bar "The Woolshed" and is just spaghetti and meat sauce. Small portion too. Plus you end up way down in town 3+ hours before the bars fill up, which is rather annoying. All around fun though!

Filthy hostel with poor security. Couldn't stay there as it didn't feel safe and there were flies and insects everywhere.

This hostel was very dirty: no soap in bathrooms, dirty sponges in the kitchen, shelves full of crumbles and bad food...clearly cleanliness is not a priority here. Bragging about the atmosphere which was nothing but 2 or 3 supposed to be funny signs is not enough to be in this business. Because indeed its a business where customers want a service for the money they give. When i wanted to check out the reception opened 1 hour later because the guy was sleeping too drunk from the previous night.

This was the MOST disgusting place I have ever seen. We booked a double room; the mattress was brown sank in the middle, the pillows were sweat stained and filthy and there was flooding on the floor. The fact that this place had the audacity to charge what it did for that room was horrendous. The only upside to this booking was that, after we said we couldn't stay there due to the filth, the staff gave us our money back and we booked into a much nicer hostel for the same price.

Staff were very friendly and helpful and made you feel at home. 10-15 minute walk to the centre which is no problem, kitchen and laundry facilities available but I did not use them. Dinner and breakfast basic but perfectly good. Slight problem with ants in my room but nevertheless would recommend the hostel without a doubt.

We had read some mixed reviews about this hostel but we absolutely loved it! It has a very warm and friendly atmosphere and the staff are lovely. If you want to party then you can do this and if you want a quiet night you can also do this. The facilities are a little tired but I would definitely stay again and recommend to a friend!

I liked the hostel so much that I still haven't left and will not be leaving here until December 1st. If you want a hostel that is fun and close to everything then this is the place for you.

A great hostel with great people running it, the best hostel i've stayed in, in Australia so far. The atmosphere is cool and relaxed. It's almost like chilling out in your own house at times because you feel so welcome there.
