Very sociable hostel if you want to meet a lot of people. They take a lot of effort to personally get to know your name and background. Have to pay for internet/ wifi but computers are unlimited use for $3. Not that far of a walk to the Esplanade or CBD. There was ants in the room and the bed.

Very good to meet people. Very nice outsidearea. Unfortunately kitchen is very poor - unclean, not many pots and bring your own fork with you because its very difficult to find one there. a lot of repairwork to do. Repair the shower and toilettflashs and please make it possible to lock the shower and toilets. The atmosphere is nice and the stuff most of the time very helpful (as long as you dont complain about the hostel) I had a really nice stay there and I would stay there again.

A good little party hostel with a brilliant character and armosphere. Annoyingly a little walk from the CBD, but Cairns is small enough that it's still only a 15 minute walk or so. Lovely staff, good facilities and pretty cheap for what you get. Definitely make an effort to get everyone out socialising and try to keep the place clean.

I cannot recommend a place more highly than the Asylum! I went there once for three nights and then spent the following month wishing I was still there. I just returned from a second stay at the Asylum, having stayed a week this time. I can truly say that my time in Australia is highlighted by these two trips to Cairns because of the friendly, welcoming community that is the Asylum. The only bad thing I could say about the place is having to leave.

The staff are overly friendly when you arrive and remember your name throughout the whole visit. When I told them I was checking out to move to an apartment the staff members became a bit rude and weird. They refused to let us use the AC in our room in 30 degree heat. No one cleans the rooms, ever. The bathrooms have leaky taps, never any toilet paper, and the water temperature is inconsistent. The kitchen is dirty and closes too early. If you're not picky, it's a cheap place to sleep.

Best stay ever! And I stood in hundreds of hostels all over the world...The atmosphere is so good, u will stay longer than u planed! Like nearly everybody. Warm, more than just helpful, welcoming and a lot of fun fun fun!!! ( And in general : Whether a hostel is clean and tidy depends in my opinion always on the people with who u are in!!! this hostel does its job really well!!! )

If you want to meet people and have an unforgettable time in Cairns the Asylum is the place to stay!! All the staff were very friendly and very helpful! The rooms are basic but me and my Fiancé only used it to sleep in so who needs luxury! We met some great people there I just wish we could have stayed there longer.

stood in room 53: DEFINITELY BEST HOSTEL FOR PARTYING - love mad monday party; The staff is very nice , the manager is pretty ferm and lovely. Kitchen not always clean but that is due to the guest. Cold shower every 2 days. Faclities are not th newest, old building, old furnitures. Love the design of my female dorm room (pinky & girly). GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY . Wifi $5 a week (when other hostel has free wifi). Lots of space in the room for luggages. there are better hostel and nearer tothe city

Best hostel I've stayed at in Australia! Very chill yet fun environment. Always someone to chat with and always something going on at night. I booked in for a night, still here 2 weeks later.

The staff are friendly, but the kitchen and bathrooms were not clean. We actually chose not to cook in the kitchen, since nothing was cleaned up and there were loads of flies and birds. The bathrooms had water and mud all over the floor. We stayed in a twin room which hadn't been cleaned before our arrival, the floor needed sweeping and there were used cigarettes on the windowsill. We would not stay here again until it's had a deep clean!

Cheap and cheerful, had a fun stay here, the staff are very friendly - James is awesome. Has a reputation as a party hostel but is really chilled out. Annoying that you can't access the kitchen at night. Free internet is one computer only. Free meal at the woolshed was really good and it's a great place to hang out in the evenings.

My third week just started at Asylum Hostel Cairns. I have decided to stay longer as i have fround really good friends in the staff as well as the atmosphere. I live with people in a community that makes every one of feel special. 'Mad Monday' parties are cheap and the best night out in Cairns. I am hoping i will stay in touch with all staff and that i will be welcome when i return! Thanks Asylum! Much Love, Room 3
