This place with a few upgrades could be a gold mine. I can only say about the room i stayed in so not sure about the dorms as i was in a private. The rooms are very basic which is fine but the mattress was so old that it was just laying on hard springs to tell the truth, no air con, did have a ceiling fan but that just moved around the very hot air. Had to pay to store our bags the day we left .Mika though was an amazing person, He really did make the stay there much more entertaining.

A great place that is a true hostel. Everybody hanging out in the common areas together. A fantastic mix of short, medium and long termers assisted by brilliant staff that ensure you are always entertained. Give this place the chance it deserves and you will be suckered in extending time after time. Located close to all bars, shops and the esplanade you couldn't ask for anything more. Make sure you stay for the amazing $4 BBQ and the Moon Party!

no cleaning of the rooms at all

It's unlikely that the atmosphere of any other hostel in Cairns will match that of Asylum - staff are very helpful in helping with bookings for tours, whilst maintaining a casual and friendly attitude towards everyone. They also know everyone's names. The promise of making new friends was fulfilled - everyone staying here is sociable regardless of background

Very chilled out place, chilled atmosphere. Couldve been a bit cleaner but when we only paid 150 each for a double room (me and boyfriend) you cant expect much (very cheap for private room)! Staff were cool, helpful. 15-20 min walk to lagoon and woolworths. Dont have high expectations if you're gana stay here and you'll be happy.

Originally booked three nights and ended up staying a week. The guests there were real characters which created the best atmosphere. Free coffee and tea in the common area, encouraging people to get out of their rooms. Just need a some hot water in the hand wash basins. Loved my time here, will stay again. Joe Albert Nick and Camille went the extra mile
