Great atmosphere, everyone is really friendly. Good kitchen facilities. Good amount of shower/toilets that are clean and have loo roll! Friendly staff who put on an all you can eat bbq on the friday night for 5 dollars!! The beds are comfy standard bunks or singles. There is a courtyard where everyone goes to smoke or pre-drink before you go out which is great, and it is an easy place to make friends if travelling alone!

Whatever you want out of your stay, you'll find at Asylum. Wether you want a quiet night in or a crazy night out, it's all there. The location is amazing, central between the city and Bondi and in the heart of Kings Cross. Amazing vibe, everybody is welcome! I stayed at Asylum again and again and again and when I'm back in Sydney it's always the first place I go for a catch up! Next time I'm in Sydney I'm gonna stay there again and so should you!

Ipaid for this hostel but actually spent most of my time in another hostel as there was,nt many backpackers to mix with in my opinion. Just bad timing i guess as it seemed like it could be a great hostel on another day. Staff were very helpful but at same time would,nt return any money when i changed my mind almost instsntly to move to another hostel.

Great place to stay, very friendly and helpful staff, great ppl staying in my dorm, many social arrangements put together by the hostel to meet with other travelers. Highly recommended if you're travelling alone, as it's an easy place to meet ppl and make friends. Good and central location too, very close to everything you want in sudney!

They really took good care of me, I met some lovely friends, and I wish I could have stayed longer. Must admit that anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing stay probably won't like this place, but if you're looking for a wild good time it's perfect.

The staff were lovely and it is located near a lot of bars, restaurants and a supermarket. However it was very unclean, the bathrooms were very dirty and the bedding was awful. There was alot of cockroaches not just in the rooms but in the microwave in the dirty kitchen as well. The place needs alot of cleaning, decorating and updating to match other cheaper better hostels.

The hostel was all around dirty with a very small kitchen which was always dirty. There isn't enough bathrooms for the amount of guests and when you finally get one the floor is usually covered in water. I wouldn't recommend this hostel to anyone except the public health and safety board. This building should probably be condemned . They also promised to put are bags in storage but when we got back 6 hours later they were still outside the door where everyone was walking past.

This hostel you go to if your going to go party in sydney, its not the cleanest of hostels in the world but the location, atmosphere and really friendly staff more than make up for it. They have organised nights out every night around kings cross and the center, it is also located to one of the biggest bars in sydney making it perfect to party hard. I wouldn't recommend it to those wanting a good nights sleep but for people wanting a decent night out in sydney with a bed at the end of it.

Great staff & location! Free internet & breakfast highly appreciated. A bit noisy (due to the neighbourhood) but I had good sleeps. However, the hostel needs to be refreshed (carpets). I didn't find it that clean. Due to their x-mas policy, I had to book for more nights than needed. Fair enough, however, I know that my bed was given to other persons before by arrival. Good for their business but as a traveller, you feel a bit "robbed".

Without doubt the dirtiest hole I stayed in during my travelling of Oz. No air conditioning, sorry my mistake there was a fan from the 1950's. The carpets were filthy, the walls had what looked like coffee dripping down them and a blood stained hand prints, the sheets were filthy and I wouldn't let my dog stay here. The staff were amazing , especially Harun, but the manager Anthony was the exception and thinks smiling is overrated. Apart from being in a good location it needs demolishing.

The hostel location is great & the staff were pretty cool. BUT the hostel itself was nasty, it's dirty, I never got my bedding washed in 13 nights (I washed it myself, the only time I could use the machine, I tried for 3 days solid & gave up). It's definitley a party hostel, its noisy. People who are not guests just rock up all the time & one night we woke up to a random bird asleep on some ones bed who left early morning (we were all in the room at the time) Great views over the back though.

I had a great time here. The staff is very friendly, the community is great, as well as the location - train station and supermarket right across the street and the city centre is in walking distance. I would definitely come back!! :)

AWFUL! Owner/Receptionist was not wearing shirt+shoes entire visit! Room untouched/uncleaned since last guests. Chip packed, used toiletries and even PUBIC HAIR was left from last visit. Bedding not properly supplied with too few sheets simply thrown on end of bed. When questioned response was, "I didn't expect you to be doing much sleeping" and claimed to not have enough time to clean. was told $45 deposit given on booking was web fee! Were taken advantage of as young customers-NOT ACCEPTABLE!

Friendly staff, although the guy in the reception acted stoned most of the time, so you didn't know if he was even listening to you. nice people staying there and the place has a lot of personality, most of the people however. Some oddballs. the free breakfast is a joke. Also, a bit dirty, even according to hostel standards. Location however is great, close to both the supermarket and the subway. When you pay here you pay for the location, that's it.
