Picked us from the airport for 5$ the room was large and we had an ensuite next to the terrace. Not directly in Thamel so easier on the sleep. No information on what to do and no community atmosphere so it was hard to meet fellow travelers. Breaksfast and wifi excellent.

You can trust Avalon House. The location is excellent if you want to stay away from Thamel, but still be close enough to walk to it (10 mins) The owner runs the house very efficiently and the staff are extremely helpful. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfasts on the rooftop which overlooks the city.. It\'s a cheerful place and it proved to be a good base for us in Nepal.

Saput and the staff at Avalon House were congenial to me. I arrived at 1 am in the morning, with a cold, which unfortunately O passed onto Saput, but these wonderful people could not have been more accommodating and friendly.

Hostel was in a good location, private room cheap although no dorm sort of facilities. Out of the way of Thamel just enough so you are woken by Buddhist prayers and bells and not car horns and traffic accidents. Staff are excellent and very knowledgeable. Would stay there again in KTM.

By far the best thing about this hotel is the staff. They are incredible friendly and exceedingly helpful. After our first stay with them we didn't even consider staying anywhere else on our return to Kathmandu. The free breakfast is also great. We haven't yet tried the dinner from the restaurant but it smells fantastic. All in all the location and the staff make it a perfect place to base yourself out of in Kathmandu. Close to Thamel but not inside where it is full on, busy and noisy.

This is an excellent budget choice. Right on the edge of Thamel which gives access to restaurants, travel information and shopping but without the noise and traffic. The staff are friendly and helpful, full of advice and willing to help whenever asked. breakfast is available and the wii-fii was very reliable. I would recommend this guesthouse as a great budget traveller\'s place.

Spent 3 nights in total (before & after trekking) at Avalon Guest house and was very pleased. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean and comfy. After hearing bad stories of other guest houses in KTM I feel I was very lucky. Location is good- just a very short walk to Thamel but far enough from the noise and crowd.

The staff of the hostel was very helpful in getting our activities organized, throughout whole Nepal, and they have good advice on where to go in Kathmandu. The staff is very enthusiastic. We have been here with three people for three times, visiting parts of the country in between. We always got our original room, although the hostel was already quite full! Compared to other Kathmandu hostels, this one is very clean. And you get a good breakfast on the rooftop terrace....with a good view.

I was staying at Avalon house for 3 nights and the entire time there was no hot water even though it was promised by the hostel that there would be. The power points in the rooms are worn out and take a lot of fiddling (and i used sticky tape) to get working. The doona cover was dirty and had stains. My friends were staying in similar or better hostels for around US$6/night when I had booked this online for US$15/night

I loved staying here. Very close to central Thamel, but quiet. Staff (Bakhta and Dipen) went out of their way to get me a working Sim card; good food; restaurant recommendations; walked me to the bus station; gave me information for everything I needed before my trek in Annapurna (supplies, food, equipment, laundry). Excellent, and I will be returning to stay there again before my flight out of Kathmandu.

Being just north of Thamel, the place was quiet refuge from the bustling crowds. I'd recommend Avalon House for any traveller. The Wi-fi connection was excellent, and the breakfast really hit the spot!

The hotel was great, I found it to be very comfortable and safe. It's also located in a quiet position and the food they serve is great. All of my queries have been answered by the staff and they are always easy to find.
