Avalon House is great! It's just outside of the tourist radius of Thamel so you get to experience a hint of real life. But you're still only a 5 minute walk away from all the restaurants. It is set away from the road so there is very little noise. The courtyard offers a great view of the city. The room was clean, the bed was very comfy, the toilet and shower were excellent.

Good location and just three minutes walk to Thamel.Great hot shower though you'd have to let the water running for a good 5 minutes before it turn hot.

Has everything you really need- breakfast, shower, toilet, bed, wifi. For the price you couldn't ask for too much more- I had an extremely comfortable double bed, a solid breakfast and the staff were all extremely kind. It's got the essentials, it's pretty clean and I would definitely recommend it to those on a budget.

Very nice hotel just outside Thamel (less noise...) with extraordinary staff. Great huge breakfast at the rooftop tarrace with amazing views was a perfect way to start the day. Good, reliable wifi (smth rare in nepal), hot water always working (again, a luxury;)). Very nice owner always happy to help. Place for people who want to get some rest after the trek or just rambling over nepal;)

Great guest house with everything you could possibly need. The staff are very helpful and really go out of their way to help you. Breakfast on the roof terrace is nice and hot showers and comfy beds are great after a long trek in the mountains.

Avalon House is a great place to stay. Saput and his team are really lovely and will do anything they can to assist you. The rooms are basic but comfortable. More importantly there is always hot water and the breakfasts are delicious. I stayed here before my trek and returned again afterwards. I will definitely stay again when I next visit Nepal. Thanks Saput

We have stayed in 2 hotels in Kathmandu, & you have to realise that Kathmandu is a city where you get what you pay for. If you want good facilities and super clean accommodation you need to pay more. Avalon house is basic accommodation. It has a good location and the roof top terrace is nice. But this will certainly never rate highly in your list of good hotels. For those going on to Pokhara, be aware ALL tourist buses leave at ~7. So don't sleep late or your stuck needing a taxi (~$110).

This was a great hostel in the perfect spot. The included breakfast - eggs, toast, banana or oatmeal, coffee or tea and mango juice - on the 5th floor terrace with a nice view of the city was the best way to start the day.

I enjoyed my stay very much. The airport pick-up worked perfectly and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The roof top terrace is a definite strong point. I would stay at Avalon again.

I would definitely stay there again, the staff were very helpful, the terrace on the roof was a great place to have breakfast (included in the price), and street-facing rooms were light and spacious. The location is good too - while the hostel is at the very north part of Thamel, in a secluded side street, you're still minutes away from the centre of the bustle.

I've stayed here twice and was intending to stay at a cheaper place for my 3rd time in ktm, but will be at Avalon House. Main reason is the staff.. They are very helpful and friendly. The view from the rooftop is very nice and the breakfast in the mornings is tasty and filling. There are other places close by for cheaper but price isn't always the most important factor.

Avalon House is a quiet hotel near the touristic place Thamel. The owner Saput is a very friendly and helpful. He picked me up at the airport and gave me information of famous spots in Kathmandu. At Avalon House I had breakfast every morning at the roof terrace with amazing view of the area and even the monkey temple! I already know where I will stay next time in Kathmandi: Avalon House!

A great place to stay when in Katmandu... Saput and his staff are very helpful and attentive... location is ideal and definitely a recommendation for somewhere close to all the action of Thamel but quiet enough to escape if you want to

Amazing staff, always attentive and will help you with everything you need.

The best part of Avalon house is the staff - from start to finish everyone was accommodating and helpful. They helped us organize flights to pokhara and we ended up staying here again when we returned to Kathmandu. We'd both highly recommend it. The one thing is that the shower is sometimes tepid, not hot, but this is a problem in many places in Nepal. David
