Wonderful stay in an ideal location, short walk to the city center and short walk to the night life. We will be back!

An overall good hostel experience, although the wifi was very weak.

Hostel was dirty and I did not feel safe. The breakfast would have been good if one could have actually gotten to it. The eating area was so small, and since it was shared with a cafe, it was impossible to sit down and eat. No exaggeration. There are better and more affordable hostels in Dublin with equally good locations. I have never felt uncomfortable in a hostel until this one.

I couldn't find anything that annoyed me or that I found that was not being taken care of. Well, except that my room was quite cold because the heating wasn't active, perhaps due to the season (mid May)

This is going to be your average run of the mill hostel. Nothing special. They have decent beds and its about 25 minute walk from the city center and temple bar. There werent enough places to charge devices and the rooms were quite small. The showers were also coldnif you caught them too late. Often it started out warm but then had to finish in the cold. But they are pretty private. Wifi is also available in the rooms which is a major plus.

Nice hostel that is located in a cool area of dublin. Central to most of the night life. This is the second time I have stayed here and would stay again.

I had to ask 3 different staff 3 different times before the light in my room got fixed. I went all 5 nights with no heat (May is cold). I asked the staff 3 times about it, by the 3rd night the finally checked. They told me they would get me a space heater, but never did. When I went to ask about it they offered to put me in another room, but the heat didn't work in that room. They didn't seem too concerned that I had no heat and offered me no compensation, except an extra blanket.

The hostel has a great location and competent staff. Still, I don't think I would recommend it. It has a "frat house" feel to it, with many college-age students who drink sufficiently heavily to cause the whole hallway to smell like alcohol. Also, the bathrooms are not clean at all.

Even for a hostel too dirty. The rooms are very very small. The showers are mouldy. The staff doesn't really care about you. The wlan didn't work. I would recommend to look first for "the times hostel", they are all what Avalon isn't - clean, friendly and cosy! We spent the first night in one of these befor we stared our roundtrip. Back in Dublin we stayed for 3 nights at the Avalon Hostel - never again! Especially if you compare it to other irish hostels. Can't believe it reveived a price...

USP's of these hostel are the characterfull building and the excellent location in the heart of Dublin. Drawbacks are that the builing is noisy and the breakfast. You can't expect much for this price, but a tasteless sandwich and a cup of instant coffee as the only option is really poor.

The staff were so kind & helped us a lot. We loved the atmosphere , the friendliness, the interaction with others staying there & the staff were fun to talk to in the wee hours when jet lag kept us awake... thumbs up to Liam for so terrific ideas..

The people who run Avalon House are top notch. I had a problem with my room and told them about it in the morning. They thanked me for letting them know about the problem, and by the afternoon the problem had been solved. Staying at the Avalon House was a good experience in large part because of the friendly, helpful, caring staff.
