I stayed for two nights and I find it kind of difficult to rate this hostel. Similar to a previous reviewer I found many "guests" awkwardly different from the type of persons I'm used to meeting at hostels. Most of them were male, seemed way older than me (I'm almost 30), and were definitely not "travelers". I didn't feel very comfortable at first and choose not to stay in the "occupied" common room. However, my impression changed when I met my "roomie" and other nice people at breakfast.

The staff were not nice and there were several folks actually living in the structure (not travellers). It became known to me that these people were living there because they were homeless and without anywhere else to stay, including a guy sleeping on the sofa in the lodge. In addition, really suspicious activities were going on at night, but I shall not comment further on those. Although the place was clean and of average appearance, this was by far the worst hostel I have ever been to.

I don't know why and how this place has such a high rate and positive comments, but the place is a mess. It's falling apart. The toilet/showers alone were enough, and for the kind of money I paid that was super expensive for such a trashy place.

This is a great hostel and one in which I would definitely stay again. The location is perfect; it's in a quiet residential neighbourhood, but just minutes away from the main tourist attractions. The dorms are nice and clean and most have a TV. There's a good sized kitchen and lounge and lots of computers that you can use for free. The free breakfast is basic, but for free, you can't complain!

Salt lake city people are very nice and kindness. So the hostel is very cool. This hostel locate in the historical area, so you can see different style historical building (including church) . 老板是华人,人很好。

Functionally the hostel was great other than a major contrast in shower temperature, that you had to work for to get right. Very friendly and helpful staff. However in comparison to the neighborhood surrounding the hostel, it seemed quite drab on the outside, and slightly rundown without any labelling saying it was in fact the hostel. Upon going inside, I came to much relief.

This hostel is conveniently located in the "Avenues" which is a quiet, safe, middle class neighborhood. I felt comfortable walking around there at night. The property is older, but it is kept very clean. The breakfast is good value especially since it's free. I stayed in an upstairs four bed dorm, and half of the time I had the room to myself. Some of the residents were longer term stay men and women, and all of them were polite and well-mannered. Overall I'd say it's good value.

1) Unsafe facility: No light in emergency stairwell, Broken plumbing. Unregulatable shower temperature: wild swings from cold to SCALDING. Arcing light switch. 2) Poor ocation for skiing guests. Advertised travel time on public transit much longer than stated. Not available on Sundays. Only one bus per day, forcing short ski day. 3) Poor room lighting. 4) Cold rooms. Heater register fallen off wall. 5) Limited kitchen hours in morning. 6) Broken TV two days. 7) No early check-out w/o key loss

Hostel is SPARKLING CLEAN. Beds are comfortable, linens are fresh, eggs for breakfast, homey, comfortable, lg lounges w/sofas, chairs, TV, tapes, books. Approx 5 mi from airport; 1 mi from Temple Sq. Parking lot + parking on the street. Couldn't ask for better. Be aware that this hostel accepts men and women in life transition situations -- this is not exclusively a backpacker/world traveller hostel.

I booked it at the last minute since the hostel I reserved canceled my reservation on the day before I arrived. So I really didn`t have any choice except this one. When I first got there, staffs were very nice and they seemed friendly. But I found out a lot of people staying there were actually living there. It wasn`t a big problem for me but I had to pay if I wanted a blanket and towel. I brought my own towel but forgot my blanket so I slept in a bed without blanket in the winter.

What do you want for $17? The mattresses were shot, the room was hot but it was clean, the coffee was strong and the nieghborhood is great. I need a place to crash for 1-2 nights a week while I am in culinary school and the price is right and I can hang out and study during the day. The usual cast of characters you expect to find staying at a hostel, I did not feel it was sketchy at all. Will probably stay there again due to the price.
