The staff were friendly and helpful, spoke good English, and the free breakfast every morning was amazing (omelets, bacon, quesedillas, toast, etc). The location right across the street from the beach was convenient and beautiful. The bunk room was extremely basic and had poor lighting, but for the price it was alright. The only complaint was the smell of the bunk room. It was absolutely awful, a mixture of sewage and rotting feet.

I read the comments about the unfriendly staff before booking here, but thought it wouldn't matter. I was wrong. We felt extremely unwelcome during our stay. Yes there is free breakfast, but you may feel guilty after seeing the pain on the staff's faces when you ask for it. All interactions with the staff were awkward. Stay in your room or on the beach and you might be ok. I won't go back.

We stayed in a 8 bed room with no ventilation at all. It seems like a bomb shelter, with emergency lights and cramped and stuffy feel. There was a spider that was a size of a large dining plate. We understand from 2 fellow transports that they slept on the couch outside the room because of the smell, insects, and huge spider. The smell was simply awful. Please stay away. A fei next door seems much better.

The bathroom is inside the room which made the room stink like feces. The concrete beds did not have any mattresses. Instead, they had a thin cushion. The bathroom was smelly and had no toilet paper. The bathroom had many glass covers. Under one of the covers, hundrds of dead and alive ants laid. This was gross. The people in the day do not speak much English. The location was a bit too far from downtown Kenting, but hey, it was only $15USD to stay there.

I booked a single and I was amazed how spacious it was. The bed was huge, the en-suite bathroom was pretty big, too, and the room was nicely decorated, making it very comfortable to stay in. It was a great room, upstairs. It was much better than the dorm-style room that I stayed in downstairs the previous time I stayed at Awu. I would definitely stay in the single room again if I got the chance.

Great location, short walk to Nanwan Beach and the Kenting Express bus stop. The free breakfast was a real breakfast(eggs, toast, meat, veg). The staff was helpful when we wanted to switch to a room with a balcony and stay longer. Common area was closed up pretty early on, but it was low season and most other places in the area seemed to follow suit. Staff had limited English, but it was never a problem, and it shouldn't always be expected in my opinion.

It's great to have a sea view. The room is clean and I walk around the room with bare feet all the time. It's quite near the beach and 7-11.

I was disappointed mostly by the staff members. While they were courteous, they did not go above and beyond their duties as hosts. They didn't give us a brief overview of the area. They didn't try to help us with transportation. They did, however, disappear after 6PM and shut down the hostel (sans the living quarters). Not surprisingly, I will not be using Awu again.

Shi Zai, Jen and Be Be were very friendly and helpful in Awu and could understand English when you speak slowly. I had a great time in Awu will definitely go back again sometime Dave and Clare from Ireland. :)

Awu is very close to Nanwan beach and had free breakfast which included eggs, toast, and veggies every morning. The staff was alright, but when we checked in, the lady just showed us our room and left - no suggestions, no questions. The mixed dorm is also very small with no storage space or tables so everything went on the floor. There were no windows in the room so we would have had a great sleep but their pet parrot would start squawking early early every morning.

we had a really great time. The hostel is right on the beach (South Bay). This may not be the beach you want to spend all your time at (really crowded and not clean), but it was still nice. You really do need to rent a scooter, but its only 400nt for 24 hours and the place is right down the street. Also, breakfast (free) is really good! Eggs, toast, salad. The dorm room is cave-like, but comfy enough and really cheap. There are 2 sets of 3 beds in a row and then 2 bunks. Good AC.
