We did not enjoy this hostel.Staffed only for couple hours in morning and again afternoon. After 5.30pm,it was a free-for-all,with kitchen pots and pans in the sink, the communal areas strewn with empty bottles/cans/pizza boxes. My room overlooked the outside area at the side of the hostel and was very noisy at night, until 2.30am one notable night.Because there is no a/c,you needed to keep window open with a fan on,in order to sleep in the heat....Our room was ok,dull brown bedding.

If you want to feel like you're a teenager at university again, stay here. Grubby kitchen, rooms need a good clean as does the lounge and surly, disinterested reception staff when I asked where my plates had gone to (apart from the younger lady who served with a smile when I checked in). Much better options around.
The Hostel has lots of potential. Some things are definitely improvable: Cleaning the kitchen should be ready BEFORE breakfast. Breakfast time was pretty late. The building has lots of character and we really liked the atmosphere. The hostel is located just at the corner of chapel street where you find several great restaurants and cafes. You can easily explore Melbourne CBD by taking the tram or the train. It's no party hostel. Beds were comfortable and clean. Would choose it again.
