The deposit was taken with full payment to be made on arrival.. BACK OF CHAPEL attempted to take full payment from my card with out me authorising.. My card company cancelled the card meaning I was without my card for the rest of my trip. The rooms were falling apart with electrical sockets coming away from the walls, windows not locking securely from a shared balcony. The Kitchen was always lacking cups and plates... The staff were only around from 8.30 to 11am and 15.00 to 17.00 RUBBISH

We booked into a dorm room and when we checked in we were moved into our own private room, which was excellent and a total bonus as it was for no extra cost! The free breakfast is handy, sets you up for the day and really it's all you need.

Nice place to stay with nice people and a friendly atmosphere. Good connection to the city. The kitchen could be in a better condition with more cups and glasses (!). After all I like this place and would come back!

Check out is no earlier than 8:30am, with no help for an earlier check out. Next time I would spend the $2o or so more and stay in a hotel with better beds, pillows and bathroom. Won't be back due to poor value for money.

I really liked this hostel. It's not too big, comfortable beds, clean, friendly staff, good people. Would absolutely recommend it! Good price.

I only really slept in the place, and didn't use the kitchen etc. The location is great for all the cafes and nightlife on Chapel Street, and using the very regular trams into town was straightforward; a day ticket gets you around. Its NOT a flash hostel, being a badly done up couple of houses knocked together. And I imagine a group of rowdy drunken guests could make the place horrendous. I was in a single room, which was cramped, but okay. You are paying cheap, for cheap. But helpful staff.

Its a nice small hostel on a big party road, it could therefore be loud at night at one side. Nice little rooms ours had a balcony xD and there is a free Breakfast :)

A cute little hostel. Much better than the bigger ones. The staff are super nice and helpful. Felt like home after a short while. Loved the bar, the music in the bar, the green walls and the cider. I will definitively recommend Back of Chapel.

Loved every min of this place, it felt more homely than stayin in an hostel everyone is so friendly and the beds and place is really clean..good nights sleep on comfy beds and nice hot powerful showers! also breakfast is great as you have cereal or toast..definately recomend it to anyone wanting to stay outskirts of the city..and chapel street is great fun with lots of little cafes, bars and shops! only a short tram or train ride away from central city and st kilda beach which is great for a tan
