It is a good hostel although it is not pretty close to the center. Staff is great but it is needed to take a metro and a free shuttle to get to there. Best.

Staff were incredibly friendly, outgoing, and helpful. Despite the location being outside of the City, the staff were running a shuttle where they would drive you directly to the subway (and back) whenever you needed. They have several computers with free internet access for use as well which was great, and pool tables in the back. We did a backpacking trip for five weeks a few years back, and the staff at Backpackers Hostel & Pub went far and beyond anything we had experienced elsewhere.

What darlings! These are just lovely people running a hostel and obviously not trying to squeeze money out of their guests! They were so kind to give rides to the train station during off-hours, coffee and toast in the mornings, money back for paying cash, even band-aids when I asked! And I didn't for one minute get that ooky anonymous sketchy hostel vibe. It really has a nice, friendly feel, and it's basically a house in a cute neighborhood. The commute isn't even that bad! Stay here!!

We booked 2 beds in a 8-female dorm and were accomodated in a 6-female dorm with only one other person at the time, which was nice. As it got closer to the weekend more people came. They had a shuttle service which took us to the train station and the hostel was a little outside of Boston but it was not a problem at all.

The hostel is rather far outside, but it is definitely a cheap alternative to the expensive ones in the center. What is great about the hostel though, is that there is a free shuttle driving to the next subway station every 30 minutes in the morning and afternoon even until 11pm. The rooms and common areas are clean and tidy. The staff was helpful and answering all questions. The breakfast is very basic, but good enough to start your day. You can also buy cheap water bottles at the front desk.

The staff is exceptionally nice and helpful. The location isn't ideal, but the hostel does it's best to make up for it by offering a shuttle service. Overall good hostel.

I had a great time at Backpackers, I arrived late at night but Carly was just a phone call away to help me get checked in. Chris was there every morning with a smile on his face and a pleasant greeting, and always asked how your day was. If there was anything you needed he would always stop what he was doing and help you out. Big shout out to Carly again who helped me plan out my days so I would have a productive trip. Gus & Juliann were also very friendly and fun to talk to after a long day

I thought the staff was very friendly - they really went out of their way to make a person feel welcome! (Especially Jeanine, who helped me when I accidentally called staff instead of, you know, opening the door.) :) Thanks for your help during my stay!

Stayed here right after the boston bombings. As a result there weren't many people staying here and hence the atmosphere wasn't that lively. However I'm sure once the hostel more fully booked it is very fun. Staff were excellent . It is a bit out of the way but you might expect that for the price.

The personalis very nice (especially Chris) he did all for me that I felt like home. So I really enjoyed my stay there. It's very clean and you can get an upgrade of an room for if something is free. The downtown is with the subway like 15 minutes away.
