A bit scary to walk back to the hostel at night as the route is dark and relatively quiet
First off, they aren't asking you for the deposit back. What they want to do is to divide the deposit when they pay so that they don't need to pay the money to each other. (in case of more than 2 people booked together) For instance, if the deposit is 16$, one of them pays. And after, they pay the rest of the amount to you. Deposit : 16 the amount they have to pay : 60 What they want to pay : 22, 38 each, not 30, 30. - the one who pays 22 is the one who already paid for the deposit.
My biggest beef is the location -- it is a brisk walk to Old Town and the Ruess. However, this is a serviceable hostel in all other regards. The employee behind the desk was very kind, and answered my endless questions with forebearance.

A bit far from the stations, need to walk around 20mins! Luckily the walking path is just beside the river! And my room got the river view!! Clean and nice hostel!
Beautiful place to stay. The staff were excellent.
Nice hostel with a good kitchen which was a good way to save money in an expensive city. The rooms were spacious with big lockers and comfy beds. The staff were lovely, particularly Andrea who went above and beyond to help us several times. Contrary to other reviews we had no problem with Mosquitos. Only complaint would be the lack of a hostel-like atmosphere. Would stay here again!
Pricey by hostel standards, but not by Lucerne standards. The surrounding area has all the charm of a business park. Not a central location from the old town, but it's not much of a walk. Lots of Asian student customers who keep to themselves. The hostel sells food stuffs at slightly higher prices. (Think 3 CHF for .33 L soda) The staff was quite friendly. Trees obscured my view of the lake.
I love this place...although a bit far from the station, I can highly recommend!!
