Thanx for pointing out how popular the kitchen is with the complimentary bread, butter, milk, cereal etc It sometimes gets a bit trashed when busy. Often when busy it's hard for staff to keep on top when looking after other guests, laundry etc It'd be nice if people cleaned up after themselves, the kitchen is after all self service but not self cleaning. However you make a good point and it is gracefully accepted.

Good accommodation. Good security on the front door but the lack of locks on the dorm doors was a bit disconcerting.

There is a lock up downstairs and 24 hour staff. Don't what else to say. It's good enough for most people and I have never had a theft, in fact I've been here since it opened and one Bordeaux football supporter lost his phone when the hostel was full of Bordeaux football supporters. They got beat 3 -0

The pictures that you originally see when you book the hostel do not represent it at all. The kitchen was tiny and complimentary breakfast was not allocated properly. There were barely enough cups/plates to accommodate everyone. All the showers were broken, the attachment used to hold the shower head up was coming out of the wall. There was a tiny window in our room, clearly not sufficient for a 8 people dorm and mould was starting to gather at the edges of the window.

Pictures on website - true old pictures, new theme Complimentary breakfast not allocated properly..Where to start ?? Maybe with complimentary for £15 per night where else do you get a self service breakfast, Maybe I am a little naive but how does one go about allocating a self service breakfast ?? Not enough cups and plates - Did you check the cupboard next to the complimentary fridge. Showers all working perfectly, It can be tricky working new showers. Tiny bit o mould - I am on it x

Having read some of the reviews before booking my stay I was a little apprehensive about my stay at Backpackers Newcastle. I didn’t expect too much but was blown away by my time there and I was only there one night. The hostel is a small independent hostel and not a big chain company. I think it’s only 26 beds. Most of the hostels I've stayed in have been in the region of 100+. The guy running the place, Damon was a fountain of knowledge and way better than the city guide. Super helpful guy!

A very poor hostel. We were invited into the reception which was full of junk and hardly welcoming. We were tild that they didn't give room keys out to guests and if we wanted to leave and for the door to be locked, we had to knock on the managers room to ask them to lock it. We obviously did the as we were not prepared to leave our room unlocked. we returned from our night out to find that our room had not in fact been locked at all. We were extremely dissapointed.

It wasn't locked because your friends came back and asked for it to be open then went out without asking for it to be locked. In all time this hostel has been open not one theft has occured

Really poor experience. At the arrival the only guy working there treated us as if he were doing as a favour just by talking to us. He didn't even know how many people were supposed to stay in what room. There's NO security whatsoever, with just a door with a code number at the entrance and no keys or lockers in the rooms!! Insane. The duvets were covered in filth, by the way. I've been in quite a few good, average and bad hostels, but this one was just surreal.

Are you the guy you the guy that arrived at 2am and immediately tried to start a fight over not having a room key?? Apologies for not donning the shoe shine box but I'd just woke up. Does a code on the door that is regularly changed to allow guests free reign and a large locked safe cupboard downstairs amount to no security? And you are just making up filth on the duvets. Insane !! I hereby offer a free stay to anybody that finds a duvet cover not fresh and soft and smelling of conditioner. It is not often we entertain guests so determined to be miserable. If you arrive with a good attitude you'll have a good time. It's a simple formula. Peace

2 electric hobs, microwave, kettle, plenty cups, cutlery, plates, pans etc, sink, hot water, fridge with small freezer compartment, slow cooker. And free Alpen, milk, tea, coffee, sugar, bread and butter all offered with a healthy dose of love.. No oven unfortunately. x Oh and the cheapest pizza shop in the world 50 yards away - £2 for any 10" pizza.

Everything was fine in the hostel, though the bell appeared not to be working the first day I was there, preventing my checkin by about 8 hours. It was quite clean, had some nice & cheerful decorations & lots of flyers about things to do off the beaten track. The showers had fantastic water pressure, though the toilets had a very strange chemical smell. The person in charge while I was there was friendly, though she mentioned that another of the employees wrote positive reviews as if a guest.

I think there might be a bit of a mis- understanding there. Her English is OK but not the best. And even if that was the case she's not going to tell the guests now is she ? Hmmm?

Everything was very good except that there was no hot water in the tap. It was a bit inconvenient in the cold winter. Apart from that, we enjoyed our stay there.

Bedroom doors don't lock!!! Only one secured storage place & it's a pain to access. Guy that ran the place counted in £100 as our deposit in front of us (which wasn't mentioned as being required anywhere) and we only got given £90 back on departure. No apology given. Not impressed.

1/ The Dorm does lock if you rent the whole dorm as a group. 2/ There is a locked safe cupboard downstairs (how many do you want??) That is easily accessible (you are really grasping at straws now) 3/ If you read your confirmation email you will see the deposit is mentioned there and I only take deposits from drinking groups 4/ The deposit goes in an envelope with the amount and name written on and remains untouched. If you got £90 back it is because that is what you gave. There is no room for error.
