After some initial confusion in finding the place (the directions they emailed me were not exactly clear), and then the fact that their sign mentions nothing about "Hostel" only "Backstreet Cafe" which added to the difficulty in finding it, I was greeted warmly by the staff and made to feel comfortable staying there. While the room itself was rather shabby and rundown, the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff made my stay at Backstreet quite enjoyable.

This hostel is in a great location on the center of Yangshuo and the staff is really kindly and helpfully. They told me all the best things I can do and they didn't try to sell me their own services. The room is normal but it has all the necessary things to live there some days. You can use 2 computers for free and they are also good cookers so you can taste typical chinese food. It's not possible to pay by credit card.

Gemma, the management, is the as adorable as helpful, always with a huge smile and ready for service to you. The best service that I have found, and the best food. Just one thing: I miss some sofa in the place.

Staff were really friendly and very helpful (even for random requests). Rooms clean and good size altnough a little tired. Towels weren't changed during the 4 day stay (but we didnt ask about it). We had a room facing the street that was extremely noisey (partly due to public holiday week which can't be helped) but very thin curtains and windows that didn't shut properly didn't help - the bar across the road and street singers had some stamina, going until 4 in the morning on a few nights.

The staff here were so amazing. I was only there for one night, but I had a problem sending something to the US, and they all stayed up until 11 PM helping to prepare the shipment. I can't say enough good things about them!! The room was not particularly special, but the staff are EXTRAORDINARY!!! You feel like you have friends and family in Yangshuo even if you are alone, and especially if you have a problem they can help you with.

This is a really nice place to stay, staff are supper friendly, food is good, rooms are clean, good location. Very cheap. Needs some renovation in the rooms but everything works and is clean.

We were really glad to have a decent & cheap double room (same price as a dorm room in a hostel) to relax a little bit after 3 days of cycling. Staff is sooooo nice! We would stay here again!
