Hostel in a great location very close to centre of activity yet not on a very busy street. There's a great street food market across the street for cheap eats as well! Dorm room was big and spacious and the bunk beds had privacy curtains. All in all I would definitely stay here again.

AMAZING hostel. This is by far the best hostel I stayed in in china. Staff had great understanding of English and were very well spoken and helpful. Excellent location just a few meters down the road from markets, shops and the promenade. Tours were available however it was raining when I was there so I was unable to do any to them. Cheap beer, cocktails and food. If you're in Guilin, stay here.

Great hostel! The stuff was really helpful and they make tasty food. Internet only in the lobby. Great location. Unfortunately bathroom wasn't too neat.

I would stay here again just for the staff. They were just as amazing as their English, and they never got annoyed with how many questions I asked, which is a feat in itself. The location is perfect for food, shopping, walking around, and grabbing a bus. The only downside was that the rooms were a little mildewy smelling and the air conditioners didn't seem to be working properly. But if they were that big of a deal, we could have stayed at the Sheraton across the street. Totally worth it.

best part was the free laundry and awesome tours. although they didnt allow an early check in, we got the opportunity to explore around. there are the sun n moon pagodas, park and malls nearby. the staff spoke english well and were extremely helpful. a negative would be the hard bed and smelly bathroom. but overall, a great hostel. i would go again when i come back to guilin. ps - the washer is free of use and washing powders are povided. you need to air dry the clothings though.

Hi, Thanks for staying at Backstreet. You stayed at a private room, and we checked with our cleaner, they didn't pick anything from your room. Also all our staff are female, no one needs a squeegee. :) Please try to find it some other place. Have a nice trip. Backstreet Team

They wnat to be the best hostel in Guilin - the staff is definitely doing their best! Service and Information is great, they offer tours to Dazhai and Yangshuo. We went in low-season, got a discount and a wonderful room for 2 with a lot of character. Not very busy though, so the lobby was empty and quiet all the time. For sure a recommendable hostel!

Each dorm has its own shower (and it was my best shower during my whole trip in China), the staff is really really nice, they can help you a lot with traveling around! It's clean, breakfast is good and check out the special discounts (something like if you stay more than 2 nights you get one free, but this need to be checked).

We really don't like how the stuff treated us. We are a couple of young asians. We don't know what's wrong with the staffs but we were not being treated nicely by the staffs, they only treated the westerns warmly not the asians. There was one day, I was asking a question to one of the staff and I got an answer without a smile and then a minute after answering my question, there were 2 western guests also asking them question and they were greeted nicely.

Dear guest, This is Emma Liu, the manager of Backstreet Youth Hostel. First of all, I do feel sorry for your unpleasant experience during your stay. I think there's some misunderstanding between us. We treat every guest same no matter where they are from, Europe, USA, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia or China. We answered every guest questions and always try our best to help everyone. That's why the average rate of Staff is 95%! Also I hope you can understand "Friendly" doesn't mean that our staff have to smile every minute, based on every different need we reply in different way, just to match your needs. Hope you have a nice trip. Emma

This hostel has a good staff, they answered our questions and were helpful. We received a discount when we returned to the hostel after a 2-day trip and got a discount without asking for one :-) We enjoyed the heating blankets, they are a MUST in winter and we were glad to have them in the beds!

Great place.. I enjoyed my stay in this hostel because of its location! It so close to the shopping district, cafe & restaurant, even walking distance to some Guilin main attractions. The room also cozy (I booked the triple room). Definitely love to stay in this hostel again :)

A nice hostel to stay at just back from the main market roads and a good location to get buses to sights or to walk to others. A friendly staff who help with tours and a comfy area to watch a big selection of films. Rooms are clean and spacious with electric blankets to help keep you warm at night. Good wifi. Good sized lockers with keys and locks provided for dorms

Really cute place, great staff, great location, but the electricity bombed in one room and the heater never worked in the other.
