After making the booking on Hostelworld we received an email saying that they were doing renovations in the hostel but they would still be able to take us in at a reduced rate (50%) or put us up in a home stay for the previously agreed price. We chose the half price option meaning we would be going without a shower – not the best situation after a 43h train journey – every penny counts. It would be nice if hostels made you aware of renovation work before you book and pay a deposit – not wait u

We booked three nights at this hostel, but the staff recommended to us that we stay at their other hostel at Lake Baikal. So we went there the middle night, and they were happy for us to leave our bags with them whilst we were away. Both hostels were excellent, and it was a nice way to visit the lake.

Good hostel, female staff not very helpful or friendly. But owner and male staff really friendly and helpful. Ecohostel in Lystvyanka is really nice, brand new!
