My only problem was the showers, but other than, this hostel had a great vibe and secure atmosphere. Thanks for a great weekend!

Staff were nice, its a bit of a hike from the station and the i got eaten by Bed Bugs in my bunk. The hostel has good character, but really spotty wifi connections.

The facilities were old and poorly maintained. WiFi didn't work, only one computer with free internet (rarely worked). 3 Showers and 2 Toilets per floor (share between 10 dorms) which were old and dirty. The rooms are locked for "cleaning purposes" from 1030-3...so no sleep-in. Very thin walls, so recommend good earplugs otherwise you can't sleep. No luggage lockers in rooms. Breakfast is minimal which is pre-served and you get a choice between stale bread or cereal. Staff were nice.

We stayed at the tent village, which is a 10 minute walk away from Balmer's Hostel. We didn't realize it would be so far away, and wished we had just stayed at Balmer's hostel (instead of the tent village). That being said, the tent village was really cute and clean, and loved the hot tub. Balmer's staff was very helpful in scheduling our Canyoning trip and everybody was very friendly.

The outdoor beer garden is great to hang out in and for meeting other travelers. The staff are really helpful and informative about what activities are available in the area.

Safe was broken in our room, but it wasn't a big deal because the safe deposit boxes in the lobby were available to use for free. The big security concern was that keys were supposed to be left at the front desk when you left, but you could literally walk up to the front desk and ask for any room key and the staff would hand it over without any request for ID or checking for name, etc.

This hostel is a bit dingy and dirty - it definitely could use some sprucing up.

I stayed at the Tent Village which is fantastic! Hot tub, amazing views, hammocks, free coffee & a big tent where everyone hangs out. I went to the club at Balmer's one night and it was fairly dead, but apparently it gets crazy on the weekend. I highly recommend staying at the Tent Village. It's such a cool experience that you won't get many places.

Avoid tent if you wanna get sleep easy. if it's raining, inside tent, you will get much noise from the sound of rain on the tents. Also Party voice from public space will go into your ears easily through tent. Otherwise it's okay.

Excellent place to stay! Great location, easy to meet fun people, breakfast included and great staff. Cons are: daytime lockout (really Balmers?? This is so old-fashioned. Get with the times!), thin walls make some of the rooms very loud, no lockers available (except really really tiny ones), kitchen isn't open past 10 pm.

Have been here numerous times over last 30 years. The hostel and staff just keeps getting better and better. Amazingly clean place and staff is always friendly and helpful, even with the constant turnover of the staff. Recent addition of free wireless is just another example of the concern the owner has for customer. In this day where top end hotels charge outlandish rates for Internet, balmers provides it for free. I was there for my birthday and the staff and owner made it special for me.
