We were excited about getting at this hostel which was voted number one in Brazil, and we were really disapponted and frustated about it. First, the woman who worked at the reception desk was not helpful at all, she could not speak any English, hopefully we could speak Portuguese.

Roof leaked onto the bed in my room. Fortunately, I was in a different bed. Also, lots of ants in my room - if that is something that bothers you. Only 1 member of the staff speaks any English, which can be a challenge if you don't speak Portuguese. Otherwise, a nice place near the beach. Would recommend.

We had the best time at this Hostel we did not want to leave. the staff are all so helpful and we were given great information on activities to do and places to eat. I would go back to this hostel if in Barra again withouta doubt and reccomend it to my friends who are traveling.

best thing: location right in the middle of both beaches & some restaurants (three to four around the corner). They cleaned everyday. Bad thing: the owner was almost never there, another person staying had to call him to return when we arrived. The rest of the staff did not speak English and Russell would need to be called. There was mediocre direction, a brief synopsis in when we arrived, and then a book handed to us for review. The room of four felt like a jail cell, ac only after ten pm.

I stayed at the twin bed room with private bathroom. The room and bathroom are very big, though the beds are small and the matress thin. But the housekeeper keeps it clean. The room is located in the very back of the house, so in general it´s quiet. There is a huge window in the bathroom, just in front the shower. Although the glass is not transparent, it´s kinda weird to have a shower just in front a huge window. In general it was a good stay, but the hostel was empty and not fun at all.

Great hostel with a great location, just five minutes from the beach and surrounded by plenty of lively bars and restaurants. If you feel like staying in then make use of the kitchen and the spacious common areas. I thoroughly enjoyed my week's stay at the Barra guest house and Russel, the owner, does his utmost to ensure his guests are satisfied.

Don't expect an avarage hostel! In Barra Guest Hostel you'll feel like home. Russell and his Team do not just work there...you will feel that they do everything with passion! Just take your time...after staying there it's hard to leave ;) It's located in Barra, a great place to be. It's not far to the old city but way more secure! You have everything you need in this neigherhood. The Beach is less than 5 min if you walk. Great rooms with big lockers and nice bathrooms...perfect place to be! THX

Enjoyed my stay. Would sugest to anyone who visites Salvador. The double room is really good with TV, fan, clean. And the free caipirinha in the evening made by Australian girl is very refreshing after a hot day. This part of city is safe, never felt insecure. Freshly squeezed orange and maracuja juice in the breakfast makes a great begining of the day. :)

stayed here for three weeks. Great location in the safest area in Salvador. Five minutes walk from both swimming and surfing beaches. The staff are very helpful with any of your needs, and the free breakfast spread is worth waking up for. Next time I'm in Salvador will definitely be staying here again.

i was only gonna stay maybe a week but i ended up staying here three weeks... its super social and super clean and close to some good clubs and of course the beach and you dont have to worry about getting molested by a trannie or robbed by a bunch of little kids like you would in the pelohrino. the aussie dude running reception makes the second best caprihina in brazil and he loves having deep emotional conversations and wearing super short shorts.. haha

A really familiar hostel, the perfect place if you want to stay a little bit longer. Close to nice beaches, bars and restaurants. Huge private bathrooms and A/C in the rooms and fast internet. Every evening you get a free caipirinha. I didn't like th metallic beds and the fridge could use a little bit more attention. This is a hostel I can highly recommend! Thanks Russel!

Nick the Aussie guy who works here is super friendly, always helpful and an all round nice bloke, I don't know how the hostel would run without him. Location of hostel is good, not too far from supermarket, beach and ATM. One complaint about hostel is that the Kitchen facilities are pretty bad and the owner needs to invest in new pots, pans, utensils etc etc. Had a great 5 days here, would definitely recommend.
