Baru Lodge is a beautiful home converted to a B&B. Nicely decorated, private and clean. Our only difficulty was is finding it both driving to it and via taxi. Panama City has few street signs making it difficult for the inexperienced to find their way around.

We spent 4 nights in Baru Lodge and we had good experiences. At arrival they informed us about the near by grocery store and 2 restaurants. The taxi is not more than USD 6-8 almost anywhere so any restaurants/sites/malls can be reached easily. Most of the staff speaks English and they are very helpful. They helped us several times when we had issues. Our room was clean and quiet and gave everything we needed for that 4 days. I will stay there again when I go back to Panama.

Aside from being difficult to find (ask for Panaria Noel), Baru Lodge is a very nice establishment. Incredibly clean and modern. Breakfast is solid if unremarkable. The patio outback is a nice place to put your feet up. And the hotel is within easy walking distance of restaurants along Via Argentina. My only complaint would be the spotty service. The morning desk clerk was incredibly kind and helpful. Other desk clerks and the breakfast staff were disinterested. Overall, solid mid-range choice.

The staff is inadequate to meet first time panamanian travelers needs. They ripped us off with a half-day tour of the city, giving us very little information, and taking us to Bennigan's restaurant when we asked for authentic panamanian food. They had no suggestions for places for dinner. They were unwilling to help us call places and reluctant to arrange taxis. They forgot to pick us up at the airport on our second stopover in panama city. He was unapologetic and seemed to laugh it off.

Well the place was nice and the staff was nice as well. We just didn't know it was just a room in itself so we couldn't not have a cold items for late night snacks.
