OMG!!! I m not the only one who think the same about the reception…well yes!!!! First I have been working for hostels since 2004 and even me in my bad days I am not that incompetent as those boys in the front desk! Lucky me I saw the Operation Manager from X-BASE (Australia-New Zealand) and I spoke to him about it…please mate do something with this boys because I think a monkey with the t-shirt's x-base will treat the costumer much much better than those guys.

Had a pretty good stay at base.. Although noticed that how much info you get a check in very much depends on who's on at the reception desk... The guy even failed to inform me of how to get to my room and started serving someone else until I asked! The lifts can be a bit slow, but if you're not lazy you can take the stairs so it's no big deal. Facilities were good and clean which is always a bonus and the people at the Base Travel desk were super helpful. In general a pretty good hostel..

The reception were completely incompetent, they cannot manage themselves nor the massive crowds checking-in. The showers did not have any hot water. The elevators are constantly broken forcing guest to wait for a free one (which takes longer than it should) or walking up long flight of stairs.

The location of the hostel is awesome. Rooms are just average. They play good music though :)

This hostel is located in the heart of the City. Staff: Very cheerful and helpful.Complimentary package is a bonus. Linens are Fresh. At the time of booking with Hostel.com, it states that the hostel offers free breakfasts and 15 minutes free internet on arrival, but it\'s no longer available. However, the Receptionist obliged without any fuss very accommodating The only area for improvement:The kitchen management should enforce stricter rules for the guests to do a better job cleaning up.

staff did not tell us or give us the breakfast vouchers until we asked for them. we stayed here previously for 7 days and only on our last night here did we find out that there was free breakfast. the lifts are always broken as well. other than that, it is all good.

I arrived late night at abour 12:45am but couldnt check in until 2am as the reception was busy. The place didnt feel safe and although the bed was clean, the bathrooms were quite dirty. Lots of people around seemed dodgy and it seems like the base is a place where old weirdos turn up late at night once they have nowhere to go. Staff was nice though, no problems.

Ok hostel, but they make you pay for EVERYTHING. The carpeted floors are so dirty that you socks are black from walking around. It did have a great location and freindly, knowledgable staff.

When i first went in i was told where the rooms where but could not find them. They did not say to go downstairs. Bathrooms where very untidy. There was sick on the floor of the bathroom for a full day. The showers you have to keep pressing the knob in just get water. They say globe bar is the best bar. but you can not get into it.

Typical base hostel - absolutely huge and fun if you know lots of people there. bathrooms were sometimes clean, sometimes not. stayed in the room with no windows - was surprisingly really good. comfy beds. but not enough bathrooms on the floor (1 boys & 1 girls). bar was fun with good offers

Big party hostel in the center of Auckland, Beds were comfortable and easy to sleep in. Great social atmosphere with many fellow backpackers to meet. Mini fridges in the dorms were a nice touch.
