I loved the spa pool, the barbecue, my room and Hollie's nice smile

I had a great stay at Base. Great location, fab BBQ every night. There is a huge selection of films for rainy days and really cosy common room felt like being in a lounge at home. Can't fault this hostel. Huge rooms with en-suite and friendly staff. Would definitely come back again!

We tended to avoid Base hostels during our time in NZ but this Base surprised! Comfy beds and our dorm had an ensuite as well as another room with fridge, sink and storage area which was really handy & made the kitchen less crazy. The hostel was really clean and the housekeeping staff were very good. Reception staff aren't the most helpful but there is plenty of tourist information in the town. There was a good atmosphere in the bar & BBQ was good value. Hostel attracts a young crowd though.

The stay was satisfactory, nothing fancy but good value or money!

Good place if you're keen to party - you can hear the bar late into the night/early morning. Kitchen / Living area was a bit small for number of people staying. Rooms were decent size - larger dorms were split into 2 sections to give a bit more privacy/space - though ensuite is a bit limiting between that many people. Staff weren't very friendly or helpful - seemed a bit annoyed when you had queries.

Was super busy and crowded. But the hostel was very well organized and well run.
