I stay at this hostel ever time I go through Brisbane awesome location right near train and bus stations. Down under bar down stairs I'd n great of you're just looking got some where close and super cheap or there see heaps of pubs and clubs near by.

worst hostel I have stayed in, there is no air conditioning in the rooms and it says it does, they have fans in the rooms on the 4th and 5th floor that's all! The showers were disgraceful!! Dirty, you either got a sad excuse of a boiling hot shower or a freezing cold one! No in between Hall ways and rooms had a foul smell and as for the kitchen area it was disgusting fridges leaking all over the floor no one cleans up after themselves and they eat out of pans like dogs, must never use plates!!

Thought the guy on reception (didn't get his name but from Brighton) was lovely- very helpful! Got to our room, and went to get on the top bunk (as the other people who got there first had nabbed all the bottom bunks) and the bed came away from the wall and nearly went on top of myself! Not good! Bathrooms were clean. Kitchen however is vile ! Very messy, no one washes anything up! No cutlery or plates available, hardly any stoves for the amount of people ! Not great location either

Very noisy! Had a very bad sleep - too many inconsiderate backpackers partying in the hallways

It's the place to go if you want to party. If you want to sleep at some point during your stay: not such a good choice. Very noisy (could hear some guy snore from the room accross mine). The party on the roof top + bar around don't stop their music until 4 am. Night staff was rude and helpless. Old building, old elevator (which terrible doors you will hear shutting all night long). Be patient if you have a question to ask at the reception it could take quite a long time.

location good. paid when i arrived when we left i asked about my key deposit he said he was busy and we had to be at rail station. we had also booked into sidney base and i queried about the key and she said we must have paid it.as we paid by visa i could not confirm this.security made us leave the building when we came down stairs to go to bar.food and beer excellent value. room a bit shoddy and we had to leave oour clothes on floor. but all in all we enjoyed the break.

Located at the heart of Brisbane, I saved so much on travel! The only thing I could complain about is the smell of urine(??) in the common room/reception area. It might have just been a musty smell from wet carpet. I loved the character, the old lift and the amazing down under pub just at basement level of the hostel. The most amazing breakfast for $7? Heck yeah!!! :)

Contender for one of the worst I stayed on the east coast. Very dirty and the dorm areas absolutely stunk. Felt really rough inside. Room was dull and just a bed. I had some food from the bar downstairs and it was shocking, and when I asked for another meal, the guy just said 'sorry'. The staff also give out wrist bands to get you to the bar. What did it get you? Nothing different than anyone else who walks in off the street. Trips advertised with 'discounts' yet cost more than if you go direct

Do not stay at this hostel if you intend to get any sleep at all during your stay. There is a club directly downstairs which thumps with music all night long vibrating through your pillow and generally stopping you from going to sleep at all. The building itself could be lovely if Base spent a bit of money on upkeep: it was probably a nice building at one point but has been left to crumble, with peeling paint, damp and smelly corridors and disused balconies.... why?!! Bathrooms are pretty dirt.

Didn't mind the basic and old/rusty hostel equipment, but I was shocked by the level of hygiene - it was catastrophical! Smelly halls, dirty toilets, cockroaches in the room ... The voice isolation sucks. The price for a single room is a total rip off. European hostels in the most expencive countries offer a lot more for much lower prices. This hostel experience was the worst ever. I would demand my money back if possible.

The central location was initial choice because of meeting my family from Narangba....... Got a bit of a shock with the price for the size of the single rooms..... but I guess it suited my needs and overall staff were very helpful and courteous at 4.30 in the morning when I had to catch the airtrain to fly back to NZ.

Great location but very noisy if you get a room above the bar. Bad conditions for unbooking and slow internet. Otherwise good.

The night club downstairs is very audible in the rooms until early in the morning. Not great if you are a light sleeper. Otherwise it is ok for a short stay.

great location however the lack of aircondition in our room at night and the poor soundproofing of rooms from the corridor made it vry difficult to sleep which was unfortunate. also there was some mould growing on the window which could be a health hazard. all in a all a vry beautiful place but could do with some manteinancel

The air conditioning for Brisbane in summer was quite inadequate. There was very little or no air flow through the A/C duct and the internal atmosphere was stifling. In addition, the ventilation fans were located in a position that made it very noisy in many rooms. They need sound isolation treatment.

The staff at the front desk helpful and eager to please. the dining tables in the kitchen area need more cleaning. The old fashioned elevator difficult to operate. The disabled washroom the upper vent needs cleaning. Great location - across from the train and bus station.. The dorm for 4 a bit small -long and narrow room The wooden wardrobe/drawers good for storing backpacks and other personal belongings
