Nice location but sad atmosphere, old and rusty facilities.

Great party Hostel just like Queenstown it self but definitely needs some sort of security lock at nighttime.Anyone can walk in and out unchecked up to the dorm especially from the bar where you don't have to pass reception.

would be nice if housekeeping hovered the room, we where in there for a week and the floor wasnt nice

shower far too hot... breakfast very bad, the guy was serving put the already toasties at the toaster. very bad humor as well, that was the guy on monday

Staff was rude and not helpful at all. It said free internet, but that turned out to be only free for 15min. When I asked about it, the staff was purely rude and couldn't care less. People were partying all night long, screaming and slamming doors. Add to that the bar/disco playing loud music on the bottom floor, which made it impossible to sleep. There was no toilet paper on the toilet. Our stay at Base in Q-town was the worst in New Zealand! I would not recommend it to anyone.

They advertise with free breakfast, but i didn't see that at all. In the shower you can not choose how warm or cold you want to shower and you have to push a button every 2 minutes for water, very enoying! The kitchen doesn't look so clean and they doesn't have enough place to cook. If you want to stay here only for party and don't want to cook, then it is a perfect hostel for you.

This a normal Base hostel. There is a bar downstairs, but it doesn\'t interfere with sleeping. The kitchen is clean and orderly. The internet here is Global Gossip so you can get 24 hrs of wifi for $8.

They had a full kitchen you could make use of and excellent staff. The 8 mixed bed dorms were pretty standard and the bar downstairs was not great, but they did give drink deals which were awesome. The location makes it worth it.

On checkin in, one member of staff was very rude & abnoxious about where I was from and basically took the mick. Secondly, the 'female sanctuary' room which I paid for was disgusting! Used cotton buds, cotton wool balls on the floor in the dorms, used razors and empty bottles of shampoo left in the shower. Bedsheets stained & grubby looking & sticky marks on the duvet. 7 bites on feet & legs during the night - bedbugs wouldn't surprise me, suggest they get the beds checked!

I think ye should start selling bread, butter, milk etc in small amounts for people who are just there for a small while and wouldnt use all if they bought in shop ! Other than that staff are very friendly, great location and met some lovely people in my room !!! Will be back asap !!

I definitely recommend this hostel. I had good times in Queenstown and the hostel is clean, good located, friendly and helpful staffs. My best stay.

Kitchen misses all sorts of utensils. The people in the reception are very helpful, but works very slowly. The rooms are very dark because there are no lamps except for the bedside lamps.

Nice hostel, it gives you free breakfast (but I think only if it's your first time) towel for free, the kitchen was a bit dirty and old but still fine!

Base is a typical party hostel. Did not really enjoy my stay there as it seems that it does not really provide for travelers who are staying there and do not want to go out/drink. Although that could have just been my room. Also the timed showers are a bit rough. Ten seconds worth of water for each push of the button is not really anyway to shower...?

I guess it just depends what you want.. the BASE is def a party place but no place to sleep. Thus, the location is nice - nice bar, great location etc. but having puke everywhere, messed up rooms and dirty bathrooms just because nobody cares being drunk and stoned.. ya it just sucks. I guess you either need to be drunk yourself to stand it or you will not have a good time. Same to the staff - they are nice but trying too hard to be cool.. funny when you are drunk - just annoying when being sober

Actually I had to cancel my booking and never stayed at the hostel. But the staff was really nice.

Great location and overall great hostel.

Stayed in a private room with en suite... there was no window so was like a sauna, and smelt pretty gross when we first walked in! Tried to check in 3 times but the queue was HUGE, there was only one girl on reception, poor thing was rushed off her feet!!! Nice hostel though, and good value, so would stay again, and Altitude Bar was lots of fun! Excellent location too!
