Extremely rude and unfriendly staff and bedbugs

Clean and secure. All the staff were very friendly. Good specials in the bar. Friendly Atmosphere and conveniently located.

Would definitely recommend Base. Easily one of the best hostels I've stayed at. The bar is awesome, always something going on in the evenings; cheap food and awesome things to do like beer pong :). Ladies night on Thursdays is pretty special too. Staff at the hostel are super friendly and helpful with any of your requests. Rooms are very clean, comfy beds and having an en-suite is always a bonus. Location is good aswell. Thank you Base for a great stay ;)

My stay at Base hostel was absolutely amazing! The staff is very friendly, the rooms are big and clean and the fact that every room has it's own bathroom is just great! When we arrived we got a tour around the hostel, this made ud feel very welcome and comfortable. The bar is open every night, and every night they have a different theme, so every night is fun in its own way. And you can barely hear the music in the rooms, so it's no problem sleeping if you're not up for a night out! Loved it!!

Awful value for money no free Internet even had to pay for towels 3 dollas! Really expensive alcohol and food really poor. The jobs man gave no information on jobs just a list off websites to visit and then Internet cost 5 dollas an hour. Horoble atmosphere and all 10 people I had met and were all travelling alone thought the same .. The night life was very poor playing only top 40 tunes and alcohol far to expensive. St kilda as a whole to expensive for back packers.

Base is a circus! Not a place to relax. It's far too noisy for that. The bar area in the foyer is utterly superfluous.

Nice and Clean Hostel, but a bit to impersonal for me

Great place! So easy to meet people and had a great bar attached. VERY clean and comfortable. Good kitchen and events happening. So close to the beach and tons of shops! Loved it!

Location and security are all good. However, the room had a stale odour which was probably coming from the carpets. Our room had an ensuite which was great. The kitchen was fine except there was no hot water for washing dishes.

Overall a really good stay with 4 other friends from Sydney. It looks from our point of view, ever since getting highly rated reviews a couple of years ago, management has either got a bit slack on the cleanliness or management has changed. Things to improve would be the painting the walls, removing the smell in the hall ways and thinking of getting new carpet. If this place was more clean, it would definitely be one of the top hostels. Other then that, we enjoyed our stay.

Was difficult to sleep until 3am as the music was very loud in the room even with windows closed. That being said I knew that it would be a party hostel when I booked!

Best Hostel i've ever been to. Loved every minute

I think this hostels's really FUN. Especially at night. And Location is good, because of near the Tram and bus stations that go to the city. I think I had good experience.

Very clean hostel with a good location, we stayed in the all female level where girls booked in as one person but 3 were sleeping in the one bed which made the room cramped as their was 8 others already. In saying this we had a great time in the hostel. Its a great partying hostel if thats what your looking for. Ladies get free champagne from 8-9 each evening, there was a good buzz in the hostel.

The ultimate party hostel. Great if you like nothing more than getting drunk with a bunch of other British travellers and not venturing out. The hostel is very big, which makes it a bit impersonal for me and I found it hard to meet other lone travellers. Kitchen is good but not big enough for the shear amount of people. On the plus side staff are very helpful particularly with booking tours and the rooms are good with a great ensuite bathroom.

Stayed in a female only dorm - paid extra. none of the additional facilites (hairdryer, hair straighteners) were actually there. Girl in bunk underneath brought different boys into the dorm each night. Unpleasant stay, although not entirely the fault of the hostel.

A very good hostel in a good location. It is very much a party hostel and if you are looking for a quieter time I would not recommend staying here.

Had a great time staying here for the F1. Very sociable place. Nice bar. Great for meeting others. See you guys next year!
