We felt restricted by some of the rules in regards to internet times, and alcohol. While these were a minor inconvenience, this was compounded by the staff being outright rude when enforcing them and, even worse when asked for assistance.

I think the service and facilities standard of Base Wanaka is exceeding my expectation. It is the best so far that I've stayed in. The staff are helpful. Kitchen are clean and tidy most of the time, I like the deck extend from the kitchen and the view of the mountains are great. The only thing is that since Mint bar is on ground level, if they have party at night, it can be very noisy if you try to get some sleep... but it would be excellent if you join the party too =)

They should advertise that there is a club under your bedroom that blares music until 2:30 in the morning!!! I complained and they turned it up. Staff were abrupt and had appalling customer service. Only concerned with the KIWIE bus groups that are dropped off at the hostel, I had to cue for 30 mins just to check in and I had booked online. The room was nice but absolutely roasting. Dont stay here unless you're 18 and want to get roaring drunk every night. Worst hostel in South Island by far.

The Hostel was really clean and well maintained. Good atmosphere. Bathrooms and kitchen were clean. All beds had their own power points and reading light, very useful. My only complaint was that the rooms were compact. There was 8 of us in a dorm (4 Bunks) and we were shoehorned in there, with hardly any space for bags, apart from under the bed. If you're there for 1 or 2 nights, you'll be fine, any longer than that and it'll annoy you! Wanaka is a great spot as wel.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The kitchen was quite dirty sometimes...

The BASE Wanaka is huge, like a hotel and therefore a bit anonymous. Everything is clean. I would not stay there again because of the In-House-Bar that kept playing loud music into the morning hours. No sleep could be found. So if you decide to stay there, you better party. If you would like to relax and have a good nght\'s sleep after an exciting day, you should go someplace else.
