Reception needs to smile more. They seem like they really hate dealing with people.

This is a great place if you are young and want to party. I personally found it too big, too impersonal and too noisy but hey, I'm 32!

You guys were so awesome! The Base Bar was legendary. Definitely recommending you to everyone heading up to Welly :D

We had a balcony overlooking the Habor where we had lovely NZ wine and a bite to eat as the sun set. What could be better.!

Great hostel! Bathrooms & kitchen were cleaned regularly, kitchen well-stocked and includes sandwich press, helpful staff, good value drinks in the bar downstairs. Other residents were friendly, well-behaved and not noisy. Bunk mattresses were thin but acceptably comfortable. Beds include large lockers underneath. Showers were always clean and vacant despite only being three (male) showers on the level. Good location in Wellington centre. All up a good choice of hostel.

Turns out Wednesday is a clubbing night on Courtney Place which is not what I was expecting. Stay further from party central if you have an early flight the next day. The all girl's 'sanctuary' floor is a fun idea. I appreciated that trashy gossip mags in the hallway. Made for a good read just before bed.

If you want to party in the base bar and meet people, it's perfect. If you want a comfy bunk and a bit of space between bumks othen not so much. I have stayed here before so I know what to expect and it meets it's target market well, young, tour bus type.

Bed bugs!

Hostel is well set up with all the mod cons. Head down the street for internet access however, at $4/hour casual rate the internet cafe can do it a lot cheaper. Right outside all the best bus stops and a main pick up point for all the tour buses made it very convenient. Had a great time in the bar, there's an activity no matter what night.

great hostel, would highly recommend, location just off courtney place, center for bars/pubs in wellington, also right next to oriental bar/musuem...100% stay here again & wellington is awesome!!!

Would recommend it, big and has everything you could want. Just lacks a little character and atmosphere I guess.

Nice bathrooms! We got lucky and booked a 6 bed dorm, but we were put in a 4 bed dorm.

The location is very good, close to lots of restaurants! have free drinks for u too! staffs are cool, beds are good! just that maybe a bit old, but generally all good! =D

The building itself is quite nice, and its location is very close to everything you'd need. my room was very dirty when i arrived even though i was the only one staying in there for the first night. most of the bathrooms were a pretty sad sight, and the toilet by my room wasn't cleaned during my four day stay. the staff were all very nice and helpful, which came in handy because my key card stopped working every time i left the room. Overall fairly pleasant hostel with a fun bar below.

When we first arrived in the 6-dorm our beds had been slept in so we moved to another room, which had hairs all over the bedding. The kitchen is probably too small when everyone is trying to cook dinner, but other than that the hostel has a good feel and the staff are really nice.

For the amount of people that they can accommodate in the hostel, the kitchen and lounge are not very big. Broken hobs etc. putting that aside most of the equipment was outdated and not working. Time to spend some money guys!! Otherwise all round good hostel.

Only half the kitchen hobs worked, massive queues to use the stove tops.

Close to the center but very noisy. Staff not very friendly ant without any motivation to help-actually what I expected from a hostel chain like base. People stay there anyway so they don't care much about the guests. Stayed there for 4 nights. They never cleaned the room not even the carpet or the bin.

cannot really grade, as when book accomondation, it was listed as wheelchair assessible, this is not the case as could not even get pass the front door, it has a step and then another which some form of ramp, which i deem too risky to attempt, so i feel i was misled, do ye actually review them yourself. because i will not be using you website again, as cannot trust the information ye provide or get from the hostel.........

The location was alright. They had easy access to buses which went to the ferry and within walking distance of all bars. However me and my mate woke up covered in bed bug bites. Very uncleanly. Bar in the basement was equally uncleanly. Will not be returning to base Wellington or any other base hostels for that matter. I recommend staying clear of this hostel
