very friendly and helpful crew.

They upgraded us complimentary and we got a great double room with a porch that had a view of all of wellington. Wasn't a typical dorm experience, but the location was great and it seemed like a good base.

Although the hostel is in an older building, this adds to the charm. Great bar below hostel, and I would recommend to spend a few extra bucks, and get your own double/private room.

After booking and paying for a double room we were told it actually wasn't available but we could have a four bedroom dorm room instead.

I loved the view from the balcony and that we were actually given a balcony room! :) I also liked the complimentary drinks :)

the location is good to explore the city. the hostel itself is quite big, very noisy with lots of young people bus groups. as some other people have said, i too would recomend to get rid of the filthy carpets and replace them by easy to clean and alergy friendly flooring. i have forgotten something in the hostel and look forward to getting it back as promised on the phone. the bathrooms were very clean and the staff at reception very friendly. the breakfast that was included in my price was good!

This place is not worth the money! And it's even more if you just walk in and book (thanks for saving us some $ hostelworld!) It's a typical Base (party place), but the bar is loud and if you want to sleep, this is not the place. We were also told by staff to make sure to lock your stuff up because 5 passports and a few computers are stolen every week! We also had someone drinking and smoking in our room, and when we said something to the staff, nothing was done.

It was nice to stay there =) The location looks great and the staff is friendly and helpfully...we like it! Maybe we see us again...I hope so ;)

my laptop has been stolen from the bedroom and nobody helped me. don´t go to this hostel it´s not safe

On arrival on the hostel, the information was v poor from staff. The did not tell us where the shower rooms where. Our window did no close and we complained as we had no sleep for the downstairs bar and surrounding bars which were on till 3am. There solution to the problem was give us blankets and water bottles. We would never stay in this hostel again.

Noisy room, noisy hostel. Kitchen was very dirty and a huge mess.

Typical massive base hostel with squeaky beds and bathrooms that are sometimes clean and sometimes arent! such a large place will always take away the character from it but its good to be there if you know lots of people (i.e. on the kiwi bus / stray bus). bar sometimes good, sometimes not - depends on the day i guess. kitchen pretty spacious

Enjoyed everyday that I was there! Staff are very friendly and I loved how it was sooo close to everything! Definatley recomend to others! The atmosphere was awesome and all the people who came through, was awesome to meet new faces! Ill be back next year!

If I am looking for a party I would prefer to go to a club. I expect that I have the chance to sleep before 3am, but not in the Base Wellington, the Bar music sounds up on the 4th floor long after midnight!

Was in the 3. floor on a tuesday and could't sleep, so noisy cause of the bar. Matraces so thin it hurts. quite dirty, everywhere.

really nice hostel if you like to party, rooms and bathrooms are really clean and the location is really good

booked for 4 nights and stayed longer! normally i usually avoid hostels that people say are party ones but i really enjoyed staying here!! bed was really comfy, locker under the bed was big enough for my small suitcase plus more! bathrooms were cleaned up to 3 times a day! i was on the sanctuary floor and had the best shower i have had at a hostel! thank you guys and will recommend you to anyone else coming to wellington!

Reception needs to smile more. They seem like they really hate dealing with people.

This is a great place if you are young and want to party. I personally found it too big, too impersonal and too noisy but hey, I'm 32!

You guys were so awesome! The Base Bar was legendary. Definitely recommending you to everyone heading up to Welly :D
