Kitchen was a bit shocking. Hardly any cuttlery and nobody was washing up much. Ending up having to butter my bread with a spoon in a bowl.

It was a nice hostel, but some of the rooms back on to the bar so forget having a good night's sleep! Great place if you're there for a party though.

I was upgraded to a 'Sanctuary' room because the hostel was fully booked... free champagne & fluffy towel! Staff all really friendly & the rooms & showers were immaculate.   Read Owner Comments

There were people staying at the hostel who apparently weren't paying for it. people sleeping in the lounge and one girl, a friend of one who had a bed in our room, who slept on the floor for three nights straight. She would wedge the rubbish bin in the doorway if she had to go in and out of the room while everyone was sleeping, and it was awkward having to wake her up to open the drawer under the bed to get my things. Everyone knows these things are rampant at base, i've not seen it as prevalent anywhere else I've stayed. I don't see the point in having a big keycard sytem when the hostel is apparently cool with people just coming in sleeping in the building. Whether they're friends of other travellers or not. If they did something or something ended up stolen, you wouldn't even have their details to be able to track them. It's pretty worrying.   Read Owner Comments

One staff member was a bit cheeky on check-in. It was kind of rude.   Read Owner Comments

I am an experienced traveler who uses hostels at every opportunity. While I thought the staff was excellent and facilities were quite good there was one aspect of my stay that turned my whole experience into a nightmare. Everything about Backpackers Wellington was great up until the music in the bar started to play. I admit that I was in bed ridiculously early (11pm) but for the fact that I was sleeping on the 6th floor and still had to talk OVER the basement bar music to heard is even more ridiculous. While I can sleep through snores, chatty dorm-mates, and the occaisional crash outside my door it was impossible to get any rest with music that was pounding into my room from 7 levels away. I am frankly offended that this hostel does not give regard to their patrons who might like to sleep before 2am. Even the occasional pulsating subwoofer in most hostels is easy to ignore. But the volume at which they blasted their music on a Mon and Tues night made me feel that I had not paid for a room to sleep in but a bedside karaoke performance. I will in fact be sure to not stay there in future for this one simple reason.   Read Owner Comments
