All in all it is a great place to stay. There is always somebody around who speaks english and they go the extra mile or kilometre for you. It is also quite helpful that one can book day trips through them, which are not commercially motivated, i.e. they don't take the bus to the shopping centres. Really liked it.

Excellent location, in one of the charming hutongs in Beijing, though it has become very very touristy today. Especially the many cousy cafe's in this same hutong are very pleasant. The hostel has everything a traveller need: social room, breakfast and dinner cafe, all excursions, bikes for rent, etc. Check out the Pass By bar and the Sandglass cafe in this hutong street for a relaxed evening.

I thought it was great. Loved the breakfast that was included. I wish the front desk person would have given me the free map when I checked in - it would have been really helpful. They didn't give it to me until the next day and I had to ask for it. I ended up giving mine to someone else I met in the common room who clearly could have benefited from it. It's printed by the hostel, so they should just give everyone one upon check-in.

Its nice with breakfast included, but You have to pay 15 RMB to get a cup of coffee, making it cheaper to buy a meal at a cafe. Also its difficult to get there from the Metro-line.

I really enjoyed my stay at Downtown Backpackers, and the tour of the Wall was excellent & a great price! The staff wasn't as knowledgeable on other Beijing sites, but were very friendly and helpful. Plus, the excellent hot water and heat were very appreciated with the below freezing temps!

Great location, comfortable rooms, nice staff and excellent location. My only complaints are the coffees in the coffee shop of the attached bar are too small for the price and the internet was excruciating slow.

The staff were super friendly and helpful and the hostel was located on an awesome lane way with lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. It's a little bit of a walk (20 minutes) to the subway but there's so much nearby that that isn't really a problem. The free breakfast is the most generous hostel breakfast I've seen - a full cooked one.

The hostel is well situated in one of the most charming huthongs in Beijing. The closest subway station is Beixinqiao on line 5. It's about 20 min walking or you can take bus 107 or 1 yuan. I booked a 3 bed mixed dorm. The room was clean, spacious, warm, hot shower and the beds were not too hard. Booked the Great Wall tour via the Hostel which was great, also thanks to Emily. There's free breakfast in the restaurant next door. I would recommend this hostel to my friends.

Hostel was in a great location on the best road in the Hutong, 10 minute walk from the metro. I was in a 6 bed room. Very comfy beds and ensuite (but have to buy toilet paper?). No individual reading lights though. The staff were great, especially Emily, who took us on a great trek along the Great Wall. The common room was good, but small. Only around 7 people could fit. The wifi was fast, but didn't work in any of the rooms, which was annoying. I would stay here again if coming back to Beijing.

Over all I loved downtown backpackers. It's in a fantastic spot close to everything and they even give you a free breakfast every morning. Also, the great staff there overnight expressed my phone to me when I had forgotten it after check out. I really appreciated the fact they were so quick on that. The only thing that bothered me was that the storage lockers in the rooms didn't have lock capabilities. There were lockable lockers downstairs though for major things I guess.

Is located in a busy alley fill with small retail shops, cafes and street snacks. Is a 2 story hutong with basement. The twin private ensuite I stayed was small, no window, only a metre square glass ceiling. No bath towels, no bed heating and wall heater was not functioning. Weather is cold in late Oct. Free western breakfast provided by the cafe next door. Nearest subway is Beixingqiao, 20mins walk. Nearby is Houhai Lake bar area. Great Wall tour is popular. Free airport pickup (min 4 nites).

The hostel is in a great location in a hutong near the Forbidden City and Beihai Park. There is a couple metro stops within a close walking distance. The dorm rooms were spacious and the bathrooms inside the rooms where ok, they didn't seem to be cleaned very often though. Activity wise, there wasn't any. The rooms have lockers, but are not really lockable. They do have free electronic lockers on the basement where you can stow away your laptop, camera, etc. Overall a nice hostel in a great loc.

Staff were very helpful especially when trying to organise how to buy an Erhu, written translation very much appreciated. Very tidy and friendly environment. Ideal for a family of 4 (two teenage boys). Great location, would've done more tours/activities if on offer - as all tours/activites through the backpackers were very well organised.

Very helpful staff - went out of their way to assist. They were polite and friendly. Great facility and location in a busy location. The cafe next door was ideal for breakfasts - which were fantastic.
