As a resident of China for the past two years, I enjoyed staying at this hostel. I had no difficulties checking-in (I am actually at about 80% for the rate of hotels losing or missing my reservations), the staff were eager to help, and the room was relatively clean and comfortable. However, my parents who had never been to China were much less impressed. They were half-joking about moving to a 'good hotel' for the second night in Beijing. The hotel is also 10 min from the nearest subway.

The cleanliness and facilities are bad.

Stayed in a private room, noticed bathroom was not cleaned on a daily basis. A definite smell is emitted from th einside pond, but other than that it was a pleasant stay. Location was great, near metro stop and within an awesome hutong with great restaurants near by.

booked thourgh website while the girl at the reception was insisting that all dorms were full and wanted to sell me a twin room. this during chinese holidays so I had nowhere else to go. the courtyard could be pretty if only it wasńt so dirty! my room was indecent with filth and the lady from cleaning came in once turning the lights on at 7 am in 4 days time. More expensive than others. convenient location in typical backstreet is all that's left.

The location was absolutely great. It was walking distance to all the best sites in Beijing. This is really great considering the traffic in Beijing- you really save a lot on time and cost. However the facilities could have been better in regards to the rooms. The sheets weren't the cleanest. The rooms were a little run down. Being within the room you can really hear what is happening on the outside because of its courtyard. If your not too picky, its great place. If your a diva, don't book.

A very beautifully decorated hostel 10 minutes walk from Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. We booked through website but our booking was lost for some reason. We were very nicely offered a 4-person room for the two of us. Unfortunately we later got another guest in this room, and while understandable, they did not have a second key and expected us to work together with this new guest for neither of us being locked out. Rooms and facilities are also in dire need of some repairs.

Not the best comfort and hygiene, but it's very cheap... It's alright for a couple of days...

This hostel was recommend to me from a fellow traveling friend however I was not overly satisfied with my stay. I had a 6 bed dorm with bathroom, the toilet seat was not on the toiket but on the floor in the shower, nothing was done about it for the 3 nights I was there. I was not given a map for the local area, when taken to my roo, I was not informed of anything but where my bed was.On a positive note it is in good location to Tiananmen Sq, Forbidden City and rhe subway st is less than 15 min

DISGUSTING, do not stay here.On a budget and short notice after my original hostel was fully booked as where most others that night for a festival.I had to stay close due to getting picked up for a Great Wall trip in the morning. Had a couple in my room, it was shocking, it stunk, mess everywhere, dirty broken beds, stained sheets, bed bugs, the bathroom was unreal,so unclean like a discussed public toilet.Worst place I've stayed in a year of traveling.Stay at 365 inn for the same price.

the rooms were very dirty and too old. the bedsheets and towels were terrible. the hostel smelled badly. but it looked great so they should just renew the old rooms and buy new bedsheets and towels and wash them better. we left after 1 night and went to a hotel/hostel just around the corner the name was: King's joy hotel. and for the same price or even cheaper if you share the room with others it was the best and cleanest hotel i was in china! so remembr go to King's joy hotel. that is the best!

The Leo Courtyard (used to be the Shanglin Hostel) is a dichotomy of sorts, with nice rooms off its wonderful courtyard to not so nice rooms in the back and north wing. I won't stay there again unless I'm guaranteed one of the rooms on the courtyard.

A bit dirty (especially bathroom), but with hot water all the time and AC. Better than you can expect for that price.

Quite dirty. No clean sheets and blanket, dirty floor, and the closet was broken, so couldn't store my stuff.

I spent really great time at Leo Hostel. Staff was friendly, rooms were clean but a bit cold. They have a huge collections of films if you don't feel like going out so every evening a lot of people watch films together in the common room. Leo Hostel organized a really nice party for Chinese New Year, I loved it. Also localisation is very good.

This hostel is not as good or as close as it's sister hostel, which is kinda irksome, but it is cheaper. Hostel failed to pick me up from the airport as they said they would and the heating was broken in my room. Having said that, after a bit of hassle I was moved to a nice warm room eventually. Showers were warm. They seemed clean but there was an odour of damp or something. Or perhaps it was just the smell off the water. Not the greatest hostel but definitely value for money.
