This hostel was very dirty, and was cold. I stayed here for a weekend and felt I was dirty the whole time. Hostel has a lot of potential for growth but needs better facilities and updating, namely the showers and toilettes.

The place was very nice (old church transformed as a hostel, a very nice living room). But the room was not clean. The heater was down (It's still cold in May, specialy when the windows do not close ...) and the bathroom was unhealthy (people could see us taking showers, the window was broken and repared with toilet paper, the shower was sticky on the floor). My advise would be: if you need only dormitories, the place is very interesting. If you are looking for a double room, don't reserve here.

The staff was great and their kindness was genuine. They helped you with directions or any kind of problems that you ran in to during your stay. I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the showers and toilets that are cleaned every day. Furthermore, the atmosphere was great, and if I ever go to Edinburgh again and sleep in a hostel, I would go to Belford! - Laszlo van Beerendonk

Get some air going through the rooms!! It's horrible that you can't open a window an have a breeze of fresh air flowing through the room! Those bathrooms need some maintenance!! The showers are filthy, realize one of the main things for a traveler is having a nice place to sleep and get cleaned up for the next day! Keep the kitchen stuff in GOOD conditions and BUY proper DISHWASHING liquid! Last but certainly not least: put a smile on your face guys, we want to feel welcome in your hostel! =)

Basic, but all you need if you just plan to sleep. The staff are friendly and helpful and it's about a £7.00 taxi fare to the Royal Mile or Waverly Station. It's easy enough to walk if you enjoy exploring some. I would definitely recommend it, and stay again!

the room was small and ours didn't have a window we could open (6-bed dorm). the atmosphere in the old church, the friendly staff, the big kitchen with the adjacent lovely decorated common room made up for it though. good idea: every guest is assigned a locker and receives a key to it

The twin (shared bathroom) room was small, but very cute, with pretty wallpaper and bed linen to liven it up. With an electric kettle and tea-coffee making ingredients, it was just what we needed. The bathroom was just a few steps away, spacious and very clean. While the security in entering the hostel (with a combination) was good, a locker in the room was missed. The fact that it was a converted church made the stay there very interesting, however, the location wasn't ideal at all.

Very nice staff, extremely clean. The shared shower for private rooms is huge, there is plenty of hot water and in the private rooms, you have a heating that's not centrally controlled (in contrast to every other hostel I've seen in the UK :) ). The common room is nicely decorated, has a bar, a pool table, but is not heated at all. moreover, the kitchen is not seperated, such that you always smell what others cook and at the same time, it can be very noisy.

love love love this hostel!! Good location, short walk to princes st. The staff were so friendly and helpful, beds were comfy, showers were warm, toilets were cleaned every few hours really don't understand the bad reveiws. Sure its a little chilly but only when walking between bedrooms and the common area, everywhere important is heated. Would highly recommend and definitely stay again! Being in a converted church just adds a lil something special too.

Well cheap, if you're not too worried about sleeping all fancy and spacious, good bang for buck. The common room is a bit old, but usable all the same. Bar seemed kinda pointless, as it isn't open to the public. No one wants to drink by themselves. Staff were friendly and helped out with a bit of travel-planning before we left.

The location is good, just a 15 minute walk to the city centre. The atmosphere isn't great, and the facilities leave something to be desired. You have to keep pushing a button to make the showers work, and they are a far walk from where the rooms are situated. The rooms are very cramped and do not have much natural light. Bathrooms weren't very clean. It was fine for a three-night stay and very cheap, however.

Hostel is cold, filthy, has no sound insulation and the regular staff, particularly the South African woman were incredibly rude. The place is covered in ridiculous warnings with threats of fines - "anyone found asleep in the lounge will be fined £10". To get a drink from the bar you must go upstairs two flights of steps to ask an irritated receptionist, which essentially means no drinking due to the license agreement. Only saving grace being two very helpful girls working there temporarily.
