Unfortunately not clean. The rooms were very small, dark and there was no possibility to seat. Many small renovations need to be done (restrooms). Nevertheless, it was cheap.

Good for one night or two. Basic. Huge kitchen with bar. big communal area, good if you have decent ppl staying there, otherwise nothing flash and to far from main heart of town.

we specifically asked for ONE 4-bedroom dorm for just the four of us. upon arrival, we were allocated a 6bed that smells of urine. went to the reception to clarify that we booked a 4-bed dorm, not a 6, yet the receptionist was not able to answer any of the questions and said he could do absolutely nothing till tmr morning when his boss arrives. yet he said he can arrange for us to stay in a private dorm the nxt night. we talked to the boss the nxt morning, who was impolite impatient did not help

The hostel was great, but traveling by myself the walk to the tourist stuff was a little much with my bags but the staff was wonderful. I didn't spend much time there, but it was great!

Rooms are ridiculously small. should have been a 1 or 2 bed but instead there was 4 beds... we had nowhere to put our bags...

Its relatively cheap, but not exactly pleasant. I was in a 10 bunk room, there's no room to move with a few people on the floor at the same time. Forget about keeping big bags in that room. The rooms have no ventilation, they are cubicles built on the floor of the big church room, with skylights opening into the church. It smells stale. It feels prison like. The guy on the desk at nights while I was there never once looked up from facebook, which seemed extraordinarily rude for a receptionist.

The walk from the hostel to the Old Town (up where the castle is on the Royal Mile) is a 20-30 minute walk. It is a nice walk, but be prepared. :) The hostel has a big kitchen and plenty of refrigerator/cabinet space, which was great. The lounge area is big and comfy, and the WiFi is free. Beds are average, and the showers can be scalding hot, but really that doesn't matter because you are sleeping in a converted church! Cool, right? Overall, this is a great deal for the price you pay.

Sorry, it was really poor staying there. Dirty and awful, and in a 6-Bedroom isn't enough room for 4... The worst stay during my journey, with several hostels... Never ever!!!!

This hostel comes with Mouldy showers, dusty cramped sleeping spaces and a kitchen that really isn't great, also with loud music blaring at all times from the eating area it means that staying here is much less than relaxing! only one member of staff was any good( he has a beard):)

Perfect place to stay and make it a base for further Edinburgh exploration. 10mins walk to main bus routes, located near St.Mary Cathedral. Excellent contact with staff, fantastic common room to integrate and relax with other travellers (pool table, TV, 4 fridges, full household equipment, nice bar). Very cozy and picturesque private rooms + very reasonable prices. Nice, big bathroom with stained glass windows! I definitely recommend it for all 18-40 nomads or couples on holiday in Scotland.

It was an amazing experience to stay in this hostel. We liked very much (me and my girlfriend) and for sure we want to stay the again next time. The problem with the dirty baths as the last reviews were fixed. When we were there it was really clean and in good conditions. Also the shower was very warm and full. Just the linen should be a little better but it was ok as well. The staff is amazing, they were very polite and ready to help when needed. I want write more, but theres no space left. Go.

After staying in a noisy, stuffy, hostel previous the the Belford it was like a breath of fresh air, we booked a private room it was nice and quite, good size, bathrooms excellent. We could relax in our room or go to the common room to chill out and use wifi. The kitchen it was large with 3 fridges and all cooking utensils pots and pans etc, supermarkets close by. Overall safe fun and friendly environment. Wish I stayed longer. Loved the staff. Very Aus friendly. Enjoy

I really liked this place. It rained a lot during my stay, so I spent a lot of time hanging out in the really comfortable common areas, meeting other travelers. And it\'s right in the middle of town, so there\'s plenty of options for food and drinks. Really good value for money too.
