Berkeley Hostel Reviews

This hostel surpassed all expectations for a hostel in northern California for me and I can't wait to return! The staff and guests were all very awesome and I met a lot of good people in the common room. There is a big focus on eating good food and listening to good music in this hostel. A couple of the guests were staying long-term while looking for a new home, and they said it was a great experience all the way through. Thanks for the hospitality and see you guys again! STAY HERE!!

This place is just what you'd probably imagine a hostel in Berkeley would be in the 60's, minus smoking of any type. It's a bit noisy for optimal sleep, due to being an old building right in the middle of the fraternity row of UC Berkeley, but quite pleasant and friendly anyway. You will not be greeted by any staff -- you will be emailed the front door code, check in on a computer, and grab your own room key. And then when you leave, you just leave, and you pay on-line. Odd, but worked out fine!

Berkeley hostel is wonderful. It's spacious, interesting, and intellectually stimulating. There are tons of books to read, interesting art work, and just an overall relaxing and comforting place to stay.

It's fun but it was unfortunately unclean: whenever I laid on sheets I got itchy, plus I heard chewing of boxes at night in the kitchen followed by squeaking... However, the staff are really fun and relaxed, and a number of people stayed up late in the common room, playing music on broken instruments and talking philosophy - so was fun.

Loved this hostel! Small bedrooms with just 3 beds, really quirky, lots of personality - and a vegan friendly kitchen! The only problem was finding it, the hostel is in a very difficult to find part of town. That said, once you know where you are, its a great location, only 2 blocks from bars cafe's and restaurants and only 20 mins from san fran. Brilliant
