Loved this hostel- One of the best we stayed in across the North Island. great kitchen facilities, friendly staff, good clean and spacious room and we managed to use the pool whilst the sun was out which was a great bonus after a day travelling in the car! Thankyou Berkenhoff

Disappointed, but not sure whether that should be directed towards Hostelworld or Berkenhaus. We booked 2 nights thru HW based on your details of "Free WiFi". There was nothing "free" at all, in fact their Internet rates were outrageous....$5 / hour. If I had bailed on my reservation because of this I still would have been out 10% on 2 nights due to the $ you captured up front. I realize that Hostels may change their offerings from time to time but their host told me it was never "free".

Nice hostel, although a little out of the centre, but no problem if you have a car. We stayed in a double room with private ensuite, and really enjoyed our stay. Kitchen is good but closes relatively early

Nice kitchen. dining room and TV room. Clean rooms and facilities - BUT the beds are really uncomfortable, the en-suit showers run out of hot water after just one person using it, so you have to use the ones outside the rooms which are really tiny and have only one hanger (backpackers know how important shower hangers are). It's a 5 minute walk from the lake and they offer transport which is nice. I didn't like the fact that they put up warning signs everywhere...

Liked the hostel and the staff is very nice, the kitchen is big and fully equiped, just a minor detail the light that kills the flies is on top of the food table... Nice tv room and good computers, magazines and books.
