Cockroaches in our room and sand in the beds. Pretty yuck.

We enjoyed a double bed private room with ensuite at this hostel which is quite rare to find in NZ. The place is large and old but clean and with OK facilities. Loved the pool tables in the bar area but it was a shame the bar wasn't open at all when we were there. In fact, there seemed to be only a handful of people staying there which was very unusual for such a large place. It's not that close to town although if you don't mind walking it's only a 15 - 20 minute walk.

Great, friendly and very helpful staff / owner. Clean bedroom and common areas. Only one problem : thin walls with loud guests.

Staff were excellent. Really friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Really easy going place. About a 15 min walk into Taupo central district where all of the bars, cafes, shops etc are.
