Our room was clean, as was the shower (en suite). The hostel seemed well regulated and the kitchen was video-ed to ensure cleaniless. As a result the kitchen was very clean. The hostel is a short walk from the centre so much quieter - which suited us.

We enjoyed a double bed private room with ensuite at this hostel which is quite rare to find in NZ. The place is large and old but clean and with OK facilities. Loved the pool tables in the bar area but it was a shame the bar wasn't open at all when we were there. In fact, there seemed to be only a handful of people staying there which was very unusual for such a large place. It's not that close to town although if you don't mind walking it's only a 15 - 20 minute walk.
