Normally I wouldn't bother with a review but this by far the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. The reception is open at very inconvenient times, this means when it finally does open you wait for ages to check in as everyone is doing so at the same time. The rooms really were a prison cell and we were informed by staff that the mattresses and doona were actually dirty, don't think it's much to ask for a clean bed to sleep on. I can't stress enough how bad this place is, couldn't wait to leave.

Great location, right in the middle of old town and next to the ogre fountain. Keyed entry to dorm room and locker. Laundry available though only one machine out of 3 is for guests. Friendly reception. Reception is closed and no one was around from I think 11am to 3pm so you can't leave your stuff there and return later to check in. Large common area, decent kitchen, lots of communal food left there too (I may have left quite a bit myself). Good hostel. Expensive city/country.

One should be told that there is a Disco right on the ground floor and they don't care about the Hostel at all, very loud at night...

This is truly one of the nicest hostels I have ever stayed at. Everything is clean, the beds are extremely comfortable, and the location is right in the center of the old town. The kitchen is the most equipped that I have ever seen in a hostel. Everything you need to cook a nice meal is there, and because Swiss restaurants are so insanely expensive, it was really nice to be able to make good food for myself (grocery store just minutes away) and have some dinner with other travelers. Stay here!

Nice hostel to stay in and very near to everything. I did not need to take public transport to anywhere in Bern :)

Really good place to stay, right in the city center! The staff was cool and the common room was huge.

Bad directions. Right as you come out of the train station there is a map of the city in the right hand corner near platform one and the street. That will help you find your barings. It is a five min walk if you know where you are going. The station is on a hill walk down the hill to the first street and turn left, that will get you giong the right direction. Follow that down about three blocks and then follow the hostel directions.

Really great place to stay and so close to everything. I've stayed there twice in the past 3 years and both stays I didn't have anything to complain about. The kitchen, laundry, eating areas are excellent, although the hostel was quite in April but I still spoke to some lovely travellers. For Switzerland the value is great but overall Bern is expensive and can be extremely cold at times. There was lots of information @ the hostel of things to see and do which was really helpful. I'd recommend it

Very conient and easy to locate from the train station. I loved the location in the old Bern, down a small alley way. The facilities inside were cleaned well and bedrooms were an okay size. Good value for money.

The staff cam do better. They are quite unfriendly and not warm enough. The bed-sheet changing can be done by the staff. As for the money that they charge at Bern backpackers, other hostels offer better facilities and amenities. The men's toilet was horrendous in the mornings,as reported by my boyfriend who stayed with me. In general, toilets can definitely be cleaner and so can the showers.

The rooms were extremely clean, the WC and showers were also nice and private. The provided lockers were nice and large so my baggage was safe throughout my stay. The kitchen and common areas were also clean, comfortable, and the facilities all worked. The hostel is in a great area only a short walk from the rail station and within walking distance to many area attractions of the Old Town.

Great - only bad parts are no breakfast (which sucks in expensive Switzerland) and the beds are very narrow and thus super uncomfortable. It is like sleeping in a coffin. That said, I'd stay here again because of how great everything else was.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Would stay here again. Hostel very clean with a female only shower which was very clean but unfortunately was only slightly warm one morning at 8:30am, which I'm guessing is a high usage time. Very clean fully equipped kitchen with a large communal area to eat in, with clean cloths and sponges to wash up after so you know plates and cutlery will be clean. Only annoying thing is that reception is closed between 12-3pm for check in or bag drop off/pick up..

Excellent location for shopping. Internet connection is fast and smooth. The front desk staff are responsive to what I asked. They are quite helpful. With this price, it is a bit expensive that breakfast is not included. The kitchen facilities are more than enough EXCEPT that the no. of stoves are not adequate in peak hours. People using the kitchen sometimes do not do the cleaning after cooking.,

Good place. Price for single room with shared bathroom was a little high. Other than that, it's fine. Wish there were more tourist info of the surrounding areas.
