To start with, we didn't like that the owner offered us a better room in exchange of rating them 100% in Hostelworld... The rooms were not very confortable and to climb to the upper one it was really noisy as the beds squeaked. When we left our bags in the 'storage room' they were moved and our flask was a bit battered as apparently it wasn't moved too carefully. Breakfast was good and the guy who served it was cool.

The location is excellent, just near the blue mosque. And the view of beds in the rooftop is amazing. One side is spectacular mosque, the other side is beautiful Bosphorus. To wake up or get sleep in this view everyday is great enjoyment !!

- facilities are not available as listed, eg very poor wifi reception, no roof top common area (which is shown on pics in hostelworld.com), no use of kitchen - rooms are very close to reception (with 1 door distance), very noisy even during midnight and early morning - street outside is very noisy even all windows are closed - staff is not very friendly, they knock everyone's door at 10:30am sharply to urge checking out, which is seldom seen in youth hostel

There was only one bathroom for the whole hostel which was quite dirty every time I needed it. The stuff was rude and they didn't care about anything! The room we booked was 6 girls female dorm and one night they put also a man. They didn't change the linens every time a person is changed, thank God we had ours! The location was good in the turistic area of the city.

The location is absolutely amazing. With that said, the hostel is dirty, cramped, and cold. The staff is unfriendly and unhelpful.

A very bad experience: we booked the room a couple of months in advance and we found the worst room in the hostel to stay. It smells at painting and it hadn't got any window. Despite we complained to the staff they said it was all full and because of it it wasn't possible to change the room. We stayed there for 4 nights: we paid for all of them in advance and 5€ as a deposit for the keys. These 5€ weren't be returned at the last day. We' d never recommend this hostel to anyone.

An almost unbeatable view of the Aya Sofya and a decent breakfast were the highlights of my stay at this hostel. First we were shown to a room that was missing one of its walls (in January that mattered), but opted instead for the 16-bed dorm room, packed with 18 beds. The balcony overlooking the Aya Sofya was closed because the extra beds were blocking the door. This hostel could be something good, but is in need of staff that care about the guests.

The first night, when we arrived my girlfriend and i, the reception gave us a room with a very strong smell of fresh paint, you althought have to know that if you re paying by credit card it ll cost ten per cent more than expected. Then the smell was very strong but we didnt say nothing cause we were happy to be in istanbul. The day after they told us we had to change room for a strange reason we didnt really get, the room was 1 meter close to the reception which is embarassing and not normal.

The expectations on the base of viewing the pictures and the actual looks differed a lot (for example, the terase you can see on the picture is not available, there is also no bar or common room, they only have a fridge with drinks at the 'reception' and it is very expensive). The breakfast is poor and the place for eating is in the basement, looking like an old garage, cold and with only four little tables - not enough place for all guests. NO sound isolation. Dirty old bathroom!

I really enjoyed my stay at best Island. The location could not be better, close to the major attractions, shopping and restaurants. The staff are very welcoming and helpful with things to do in the area. The hostel is in the oldest part of İstanbul so the building is old but very clean and well taken care of. There is free breakfast, computers, wifi, linen and towels. This is also the safest area of İstanbul, there are lots of police around so its safe to walk around at any time of night.

Hostel is very dirty, there are cockroaches in the bathroom, toilet when there is dark. Private rooms are very smelly, and one of these rooms has no window, is connected to the laundry room, cause there is no air conditioning, can't sleep during the night. Explained that we couldn't sleep due to smell, air,no window etc and the owners still want money for 3 nights, no refund, no sorry, no cancelation, and even threatened us that they will charge from our card for whole 3 nights.
