This is a great place. For $15, you cannot ask for more. Free breakfast, gym access, and super awesome staff who tell you all about the city. It's organized, accommodating, and convenient. 10 out of 10.

The staff was so knowlegable about EVEYTHING in Singapore. It was nice chatting with them about the history and present. They were very accomidating. The free freshly cooked breakfast was a nice change from the typical cereal and bread. The lounge area was perfect for relaxing, watching movies, using their free wifi and meeting people. Very great hostel! If/when I return to Singapore I will definately stay here again!

I highly recommend Betel Box Backpacker, excellent staff, comfortable rooms and reception open 24 hours. If I have to go back to Singapore, I would't doubt about it, Betel Box would be my hostel again!

Very cosy! Staff is very helpful and they know a lot about the city and what backpackers want. Only pitfall is that they might become to strict. For example: on thing I did not like is that they put on the desk that "the price of the stay depends on the customers attitude". I get what you want to achieve, but this is probably not the best way to say so...

This was a really nice hostel. We stayed in the double room which was very clean and had some character. The staff was super helpful and provided us with answers to all of our questions. We were able to rent bikes onsite and got recommendations for some great places to eat nearby. I would definitely recommend this hostel and would stay here again!

The hostel is far away form the city center. The rooms are ok, but there is not really a good atmosphere.

Investigation done with staff. Guest arrived very late about 9pm, she said she was tired, wanted to rest and would be checking out a few hours later at 430am. We invited her after checking in to our Easter Weekend hostel party which had free food and drinks but she declined because of jet lag. During hostel introductions, told her about our award winning cycling tour the next day that she can join for free and about the countless activities in the Joo Chiat town but its all irrelevant because she is just staying that 5 hours in Singapore. Incidentally, the hostel is conveniently in the heart of Joo Chiat Town; heritage award winner of the First Heritage Town of Singapore and easy transport in and around Singapore. Regardless, we made sure she is taken care of and helped her get a taxi at 4.30am.

Staff were excellent, big community space, clean. It's good value for money! Not so far from the city central, very local atmosphere~ To the east coast beach is 20 mins walk. From the airport to here get no.24 bus. If your flight time is not fit for public transportation, it's relatively close to the airport. I enjoyed to stay here.

Always nice to stay this hostel! Actually I am a heavy repeater. Staff are kind and professional, not only tell us where to go but also have tons of knowledge about SG history. It's very relaxing to have breakfast at the restaurant downstairs. In case you miss the breakfast you can use the breakfast voucher for lunch or even dinner. (super recommend to have Laksa goreng! supper yummy!) There are huge community space, you meet friends from the globe!

Its my 3rd time to stay here in this hostel--every time it keeps on getting better. The staff is always helpful. The complementary breakfast is basic and delicious, but if you want greater culinary adventures hawker stalls are just a 10 minute walk. Very good value for money. Would stay here again when I visit Singapore.

I've enjoyed my 5 nights stay at this hostel. The friendly members of the staff did everything they can to assist me and made me feel at home. With air-cond room, free wifi, free breakfast and locker with cctv coverage, there isn't anything more a backpacker could ask for. Will definitely choose to stay here again should I drop by in Singapore again. I've a great time here.

Betel Box's staff is great and especially Theresa named girl there. She was so helpful with planning our day and she was always smiling and answering questions the best she could do. The shower was not the most practically built. It should be bigger and it wasn't so easy to put your clothes (if they were even dry anymore) on there. The common area was ok, Wifi was fast and of course as a coffee drinker the free coffee was a good thing. Overall a pretty decent hostel.

Thank you for your feedback. We are a 8 year old hostel, that served over 80,000 backpackers from over 100 countries and we have won awards including The Best Travel Experience by the Singapore Tourism Board Awards. There are plenty of antiques around the hostel and they are well maintained by a crew. Other than the pool table which the price of each game is set up by the contacting company, we also do provide PS2, Wii and board games which are free for the guests.

good: - very friendly and helpful staff - free breakfast (but needs more variation) bad: - only ONE useful shower/toilett for like 50 ppl, the other shower is in the kitchen/common area, who wants to shower there??? - "full equipped kitchen" = mircrowave and a water boiler - dust like all over the place/ mildew in the shower !! - 20 mins away from the next MRT station, the Bus is not really a alternative to get around - ants in the room - air con is noisy as hell def. not coming back, sorry

Owner Comment (Show)
Investigation was done with the team. Guest appears to have misunderstood instructions on checking in. Being the only Hostel in Singapore to provide cooked breakfast, there are at least 5 breakfast sets available for the voucher given. After breakfast hours, if the breakfast voucher is still not claimed, the guest can use it to as a discount of main course items during either lunch or dinner. Cooking utensils and equipment are available for use. Due to the availability of cheap food options in our neighbourhood, most of guests rarely cooks in the hostel. The equipment is still available if the guests would ask the staff. The buses provide an alternative view of Singapore as MRT tracks goes underground after 2 stops from Paya Lebar. Moreover, the Hostel is strategically accessible with various buses providing direct routes than MRT. Thus shortening travel timing to destinations and attractions. On check-in we have mentioned to the guest that there are toilets & bathroom facilities across 5 floors of the entire hostel available for use, most are separated from the bed rooms that if guest chooses to take a late night shower, it will not disturb other guests. Cleanliness is an issue when the hostel is fairly full, we will be stepping up our hourly checks and cleaning; they should not have kept silent while they felt that they had suffered.
