There seemed to be a large discrepancy in the quality of the female versus male shower room facilities!

As a hostel which won some awards I was not very impressed. Double room rate of 450R is too much for what you get. Many B&B are the same price with daily cleaning, TV , Coffee etc. So the price ist too much. Location is very good as you can walk to all the restaurants around green point.

Very rude staff. The manager was particularly bad. Door lock broke and they didn't apologise or even call a locksmith until quite a long time had passed. Didn't seem to care that someone tried to mug us. Dirty bathroom. In a dodgy neighbourhood. I would recommend House on the Hill if you want a nice place to stay close to the waterfront.

The cleanliness was good though was disappointed to find bedbugs in my room and wasn't particularly happy with options given to me to get rid of them. There was no offer of a different mattress and duvet or even a look at the room to asses the problem. I was offered another room but I would have just spread the infestation. I hope when I left that the next occupiers of that room were told about the bedbugs, I fear that won't be the case.

Dorm rooms don't have individual keys, so the rooms remain unlocked 24/7. There is a "safe room" for valuables, but I highly question the safety of that room since the manager would give us the key to that very room to collect our valuables (where everyone else's valuables were!) Besides the safety concerns, I loved Big Blue! It's in an absolutely perfect location for walking to the waterfront or downtown.

Stayed in a single ensuite room. Room amenities are very basic, with a small heating unit provided within for generating warm air. Taking into account the room rate and location (10-15 mins walk to Waterfront), this is value-for-money for the budget conscious traveller.

The staff was great. As well as the location, and the tours that were offered by the Big Blue Backpackers. I had a great stay!

Loved the place, slightly unorganised, but in a nice friendly way. Our room was quiet, spacious and the facilities were totally adequate and kept really clean. Guido the manager was a champion help whenever we needed it. We look forward to staying again.
