A very handy located hostel in Newtown. Rates are very reasonable, facilities are plentiful and well maintained. The private rooms are great, like a motel, and the dorms are good - long term stayers generate a lot of clutter, be warned - but the dorm bathrooms are cleaned frequently which is the main thing. No common areas open after 11pm is a blessing and a curse. Pool is nice for a dip though not many people seem to. Long-termers have different vibe for sure but still very friendly.

Good location and value for money. Nice tv area with free computers and big kitchen. Bathrooms cleaned twice daily. Had to pay for everything including wifi which was awful. Some staff were nice but others quite rude and dismissive. A lot of long term stayers which made the rooms messy and hard to but belongings anywhere and made for a weird atmosphere if you hadn't been there long term too.

When I arrived (at a Sunday night, 10 pm) the staff didn't showed me around. I didn't even knew about the tv-room until my last day (?!). A lot of youngsters in this hostel are long-stayers and working in and around Sydney. The group is quite big and are all friends, this can feel quite intimidating. They are a open and friendly group, but the synergy in this group is already set .. Staff probably though I was long stay as well? The staff is very nice and helpful though if you ask for help.

I have had another enjoyable stay at the Billabong Gardens. Always welcomed and cared for very well. Thanks again.Rregards, Allen Hunt

Billabong gardens was a okay hostel, some how the atmosphere didn't really agree with me, it just felt a bit cold, probably due to the cement walls and overall grey colour sceme. Newtown is a cool artsy area tough (a bit far for the center) and it isn't a awfull hostel for sure. Just not my thing.
