Great place to be, good value for the price, I loved the kitchen and the TV room. The rooms are very nice and clean, no bunk eds which makes the rooms look bigger and more comfortable. No complaints from my point of view!
Nice and clean, great water pressure. Friendly staff
We paid a really great price for an en-suite room. The room was clean and comfy, and the kitchen facilities were great, I would definitely stay here again.

Great hostel with very comfortable beds and great bathrooms. Kitchen a little too small as fridges were over-flowing and one of the two cookers was broken. It was very friendly and easy to meet people. Special thanks to Lily for creating such a fun atmosphere and getting everyone together. Great cook and a real asset to the place. The receptionists should take a leaf out of her book! Also be aware that you will share a bathroom with at least 6 other people.
The kitchen was a complete mess and did not have enough plates/bowls for the amount of people. The walls were paper thin and it was very noisy.
Super friendly staff, and helpful with all activities bookings. I'll make sure to come back here whenever I am in Taupo.
So cool place with top facilities and nice garden. Me and my friend got a four bed dorm all to ourselves!
A very personal and familiar hostel with a nice courtyard where you can camp. The owner helps you with everything!
The room was big and it was clean. They should provide free wifi (you have to pay 4 dollars).
Overall it wasn't a bad stay at the Blackcurrent, there wasn't too much atmosphere owing to the large turnover of people who were staying in Taupo just to do the crossing obv. Not the hostels fault! Security is a bit weird as most people leave the sliding doors to the room open to let a breeze in, meaning I never felt my bags were 100% safe. Also you have to pay for the wifi (only $4 p/d) but it seemed to be really slow and overall poor coverage, particularly as you are restricted to 1 device!
