Amazing - in our double room we felt more like we were in a hotel: towels, ensuite bathroom, electric blankets! All staff really helpful and friendly bar one European who very rudely rushed us out of the kitchen "guys can you hurry up now we need to clean" (we had already politely been asked to leave when we were ready with "no rush", which was fine.) Apart from that, excellent - I'd definitely stay again!

Rooms could have been cleaner. Friendly male staff member. Kays wouldnt work in door. Beds and sheets a a little dated and there where insects in the room.

Really comfy beds and spacious rooms. No lockers in rooms but that was the case for all other hostels I stayed in in NZ. Great location in centre of town, helpful, friendly, staff, very clean facilities. Nice courtyard and communal lounge makes it a good place for socialising with fellow travellers. Would definitley recommend blackcurrant!

Very pleased with the friendly service. We were made to feel at home from the beginning of our stay. We would definitely recommend Blackcurrant Backpackers, by far the best hostel we stayed in.

Hostel is located about 10mins walk from i-Site, away from center. The place itself is very nice, few houses and a garden in the middle of them. Kitchen is nice, big, perhaps could have a bit more tables. Staff - Martin, was amazing, super friendly and super informative, like the best receptionist ever(ywhere). I stayed in 4 bed dorm - no bunkbeds, room very spacious and clean, bathroom as well (shared with another twinroom). Only con - wifi is not free (but McDonald is not faraway).

One of the best hostel experiences I've had. I mean, singe beds in "dorms" must be considered as luxury. Great facilities, was warmly welcomed and slept well every night. Relatively easy to meet people, but could use a better common area. I really enjoyed my stay and would tell anyone passing through to give it a try!

Good location. Host, Beth is lovely and very helpful. Very clean place. It was great to be in beds rather than bunks! The hostel seems to attract a really nice, cool type of person. All ages and a good atmosphere.

A great place to stay with amazing staff. The only problem were the dodgy gas rings which made cooking kinda stressful.

Enjoyed my stay! Very nice inner courtyard to chill. Good size dorm rooms, but would be nice to get an individual locker. Comfy DVD lounge & big kitchen area. Could do with a few more showers/ toilets (people queueing every morning I was there) Friendly & helpful staff. Very clean.

Fantastic staff, loved the single beds (what a luxury!), and the hostel is set up really well for meeting people. Courtyard was great! The fixtures in the bathroom were clean/modern, but the washrooms themselves needed work -- hopefully this will be done in renovations in the near future? Rooms were a good size with lots of light/fresh air, though I would have loved locker storage and another fridge in the kitchen. All in all a really great hostel I'd recommend to anyone staying in Taupo.

Front of the house, lovely, knowledgeable and eager to please staff!! The double room was lovely and the adjacent washroom spacious and clean. The nearby shopping very good. The walking distance to the trails about 1/2 an hour and about an hour within to the Hukka falls. Lovely area. The kitchen and dining area, round tables, clean and organized. I think Martin(/) cleans the kitchen every night what a pleasure..
