If your traveling by yourself and can choose any where to stay in tamarindo, stay here. There's ac/hot water/and its the closest hostel to the beach and main areas. Most people who stayed here were on their own and super friendly, which was great as it was my first time traveling solo. The staff are also great at helping arrange transport and excursions if you need help.
Awesome place and awesome staff! Would recomend it for everyone and I definetaly would stay at Blue Trailz again!

Staff was so helpful during my stay. We booked a really good beginners class to learn surfing. Went to another hostel in the town that turned out to be an awful and dirty place. Really felt like home when I came back. Each dorm has its own bathroom and small kitchen. Definitely the best option in town! Made a lot of new friends there. It might seem a little quiet for people looking to party but if you want to have a rest after going surfing and meet some nice people this is the place to go!
A small intimate hostel with 4 rooms, so a great place to get to know your roomies and neighbours. The rooms are great with an en-suite bathroom and small kitchenette, luxury for backpackers. Really chilled and relaxed atmosphere, with a cool outside area to hang in the hammocks. Super close to the beach, shops and bars. Would definitely recommend.
Probably the best out of the 4 hostels I visited in CR. It's close to bars and beach, whichever you like the most. Rooms are exceptionally clean, and have their own fridge, bathroom, and AC, all very much functional, and the shower WAS NOT ELECTRIC (a huge plus for me). There's a supermarket 50 paces away, and they rent their own boards. The common area was a great place to talk with other guests and a good group of friends was formed. It's not party central but definitely fun enough.
Great place to meet great people and an excellent location right on the beach. It's got a nice vibe and feels secure with a security guard manning the site outside of office hours - although Costa Rica and Tamarindo seem largely safe. The price is excellent and whilst both members of staff we encountered during our 4-night stay were helpful when we asked questions, only one of them was friendly. However this didn't detract from a great time and I'd recommend this place if staying in Tamarindo.
This was a great place to stay! Location couldn't be better, the beach is right across the street! Staff is very helpful and friendly...plus you get a sweet deal on surfboard rentals and other things for staying there. I will definitely be staying here again.
Super close to beach (across he street!). Surfboards available for rent. Friendly staff. Small common area outside with hammocks, tables and chairs. Within short walking distance to downtown bars and restaurants. Great place.
I loved staying at Blue Trailz. The beach and a market are directly across the street. The facilities are clean, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. I'd gladly come back.
Terrific location, nice patios area to mingle (although some electrical outlets on the patio would be nice), and kitchen area inside each dorm room.
Friendly scene here, but be advised, if you are not here to party - you will have people blowing cigarette smoke in your face in the courtyard and turning on lights and drunkenly stumbling around the dorm at 3 AM. Had a great surfing lesson with a guy named Kurt.
Great place!! You just have to cross the street to the beach, and all the bars and restaurants are so close. Even the bus stop to out of them is next door. Friendly staff and clean. a/c tops it off. would go back in a wink.

Really great hostel!! It is a relatively small hostel so people just hang out together all the time. It is 1min walk to the beach which is really great and also close to the public bus stop.
My stay at Blue Trailz was amazing! The staff was incredibly helpful and the other people there were awesome. I will be going again next chance I get!

Hot water Poor WIFI Great Costa Rican workers Not as clean as it could be--quite difficult on a beach Board rentals inexpensive Enough of a kitchen, but eating around Tamarindo is cheap--provided you find the local places Good AC Great location next to beach and the bus picks up right outside the hostel Summary: Awesome location and PERFECT for those wanting to surf while in Tamarindo.
Nice spot right by beach, boards to rent, good social area.
Had a great time, extremely friendly and helpful staff, great location and easy to rent your boards!
Nice place, its clean and the staff is veel helpfull. We liked the hostel but Tamarindo itself was terrible. Too many tourists and less Costa Rica - vibe.
Great location! Across the street from the beach where street vendors sell $1 coconuts and homemade ice cream. Staff is very friendly and helpful. There's an Interbus and tourism office around the corner if you need help booking shuttles or tours as Blue Trailz focuses mostly on surf lessons. The place is cleaned daily but the bathroom always seems to be covered on beach sand and smells of poop. $6 laundry service at 10am everyday and lots of restaurants, supermarkets
