Really friendly owners, you feel part of the family! Location wise it is fairly close to the airport although taxi ride is needed unless you organise something with bob prior. 150r was required. It is close to shops, not much of a nightlife area although it was a quiet period and the vibe in the hostel was good and they have a bar. A little different to a normal set up but all in all very nice place!

Joan and Bob were very friendly and very helpful! Very close to the airport, which is great if you're staying a night before a connecting flight. There is not too much to do nearby though.

Nothing to do around, good if you have a car or for one night in the city.

My friend and I enjoyed our stay at Bob's Bunkhouse. We had our own car, so distance from attractions was not an issue. The hostel is not served by public transportation, but this is the case with all affordable accommodations in Johannesburg. The area feels safe, and it was only a few block walk to reach restaurants, grocery stores, and a pharmacy. We are elderly and sick, but had no problem walking into "town" a couple of times per day. The hostel atmosphere was great! Free WiFi worked well.

This place is amazing, however the location was not conducive to anything other than this place being a pit stop. This place is easily accessible by transit of taxi or pick up by the hostel, however there is unfortunately, not much in walking distance for food, groceries or shopping. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly, and informative. The atmosphere was arranged perfectly for quite time and for interacting with staff and hostel mates. This price and value was perfect.

Bob and Joan were great. The grocery store was just up the street and it's not far from the airport. Loved Bob's Bunkhouse.
