Books may not be for everyone, but if you are looking for a social and fun hostel, look no further. It is easily the best hostel I stayed in in Brazil. Would deffinately recommend.

Party hostel with lots of party people - if it's not what you're looking for I'd avoid - if it is, you'll be in heaven!! Felipe is the host with the most, but no info given by staff on check-in about any of the facilities or surroundings. The shower was dirty & cold - overall not my cuppa tea ... Which is disappointing as it came highly recommended

Felipe is the best host i've ever met. He will do anything to help you even in his hardest hangover! Always there when you ask him something. The hostel is great, the real party atmosphere, facilities, clean bathrooms, fast wifi. It's close o everything right in the center of the bohemian town of río. I really, really like the hostel and felt like home.

Books is a great hostel, although definitely a party hostel if that is what you're looking for. The staff are friendly, the kitchen facilities are good, and it is clean. Overall a good stay

This hostel is up there as one of the best hostels we have ever stayed in. Felipe the owner is an absolute legend, never met a nicer and more friendly person yet alone hostel owner. The atmosphere is incredible, so easy to meet people and the staff will go above and beyond. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to fully experience Rio. X

staff is comprised of hostel stayers as well which made for a great atmosphere. felipe was always there to give advice and answer questions. backpacker hostel for sure, easy to talk to people and make some friends. location was unparalleled, we had drinks at the hostel bar altogether and then went out in lapa. incredible hostel to stay in for the first nights in Rio, i felt spoiled when i left. haven't found that kind of atmosphere before

Absolutely LOVED Books hostel! Super easy to meet people and always a great time in the downstairs bar. They let you bring your own drinks in and there's always drinking games happening. Good wifi and great free breakfast. Super helpful and fun staff. Not the most professional hostel - nights out could be disorganised and an airconditioner leaked on my bed for my entire 4 night stay. Bathrooms on my end of the hostel were absolutely fine. But stay here if you want to have the best time in Rio!!

This hostel is made by the people that run it (Felipe) and all the people that work there (mostly other travelers anyway) are super friendly, inclusive and actively try to make your stay fun. They organised trips plan nights out give you advice on the area what to do what not to do. If you don't want to party i still think you will have a great time just chilling and chatting to people in the communal areas. free water, wifi, computers, happy hour and GREAT PARTIES!!!

Hands down, the BEST hostel in central/South America. Run by an absolute God (Felipe) and his very friendly, professional and informative staff. Top notch facilities, nice bedrooms, very affordable bar, amazing social aspect and a second to none buffet breakfast. Do not stay anywhere else in rio, the location is perfect, the streets of Lapa offer a real experience of the day-to-day life in rio and every night of the week the streets are filled with locals partying the night away. Will be back

The staff are excellent, and this hostel and neighborhood are definetly the spot for nightlife. Got some bad bug bites however on my fourth night at the hostel, and had to switch rooms. The place is huge, lots of people always around.

Great party hostel right in the party neighbourhood of Lapa. Much like Lapa, the hostel is actually a bit of a dump, but you don't go to Books for a luxurious break you go there to have fun. As it's not a chain it felt a lot less forced than some other party hostels, just lots of fun and super easy to meet people. Great deals on drinks and fun nights possible every night. Bar closes at 11 as well so if you don't fancy a mad one you don't have to. Very English hostel

I had an amazing time in the hostel. Everyone there really makes you feel part of the family, so no wonder it is referred to as Books Family, you really do feel part of the unit! The friendly atmosphere in the hostel really envelops you from the moment you arrive and if you are travelling alone is the perfect place to start your adventure in Rio.

We love books hostel. Great atmosphere, good beds, staff are great. Only thing I would say is lack of toilets - they were often out of order, no door etc.
